  1. This chestnut appeared many years ago in the monthlies..hard one to call..who invents the fly? how many "new" flies have u seen before? One instance. a Damsel pattern was tied originally(?) a fly tyer up here in Scotia..At the time this fly caught lots of fish, then it disappeared deep into flyboxes..3/4 years later, anglers from another area appeared at my local fishery and proceeded to empty the place, when asked the killer fly,one of them replied "Its a new fly tied by my mate" and he proceeded to show us the fly..I went into my box and produced the same fly tied exactly as his..same type hook materials etc..I was accused of buying it at such and such a fishery then the owner of the my local fishery appeared and voila!! he produced the same fly..and were told his mate had just tied this and invented it..well why argue?
  2. Having seen some poor specimens or rainbow trout in some stocked torut fisheries then seeing the quality of them in Loch Leven..dunno..still reckon if it aint been there dont stock it..Carp? no comment..
  3. quote: If nature intended them to be in the UK, they would already be here! Jim says it all...
  4. The Mason fly..because if it was gonna haul fish out everywhere..it would be a secret..ssssssssssh!!I know its not in the spirit ,Elton, but a little fun..
  5. Please note..lately!! and i spent £13 of UK money to go see them and Reel Big Fish in concert..believe me they can play...they are good...not as good as the Fish granted..but good..anyway I like the Blue Jays..every other team sucks ... Yer Bawb

  13. Just noticed this...EGG flies, brings back memories LOL..first of all, let me say these can be deadly at one fishery and **** poor at another..ok, how to fish..sinking line obviously as they are best fished on the bottom..i used to use a Wet Cell 2(or any sinking line) fished with a 4 - 5 ft leader, I fished one dropper and obviously one on the point..I tried two different colours and fished them very very slow..like I have said, they are either deadly or poor..try them!! One other thing..sometime I used a weighted black fritz fly on the point(not gold bead)if u want tying for this just pm me..its basic with a little extra..or another tip, fish your egg fly on the point and fish a size 14 Hares ear buzzer on the dropper..Tight lines and let us know how you get on with the Eggs.. Oops, forgot to add, when retreiving, inch the line in...also,a very very slow figure of eight can be used but do it 'loosely' as if they want the egg they can hammer it.... [ 17. advice req.

Personally ,Black Pennell size 14/16 on the dropper and a Black and peacock spider 14/16[slightly weighted, not gold bead] on the point..not everyones choice but has helped me on a new water many a time!!! I usually fish just one dropper!!! [ 16. August 2002, 10:43 PM: Message edited by: bobbyf ]
  16. AFTM line ratings are the line sizes for optimum loading and use of your rod..any heavier line lines used on your rod..well least said the better..too light a line then lack of rod action..i used to use Shakys worcestershire floating lines and i always thought they rated the lines a size too high..personally i felt their lines were soft and strechy..Mullarkeys used to sell them unboxed as millends, check Mullarkeys millend colours to shakys and there used to be only one diff and that was a glider line, so it was reckoned..I never found anything wrong with my Glider neutral but I only used it occasionally.I was a great fan of Airflo slow glass intermediate..memory problems but what a line!!!never was a fan of Cortland lines myself but each to his own I say..if any one u fish with has these other lines, borrow and see how u get on..keep in there..and rememeber, you may have a superduper fly rod all the top gear BUT its presentaion and the flies u have on the business end that counts...
  17. Sorry no nothing but East Lothian but these sites have some stuff in area and links to local clubs in Edinburgh area..contact to the clubs would be best idea..I have given Scottish Coarse angling site addy..links to clubs on there.. http://www.sfca.co.uk/ Bawb
  18. Yep, Elton ,another topical post by the Piker who I know is very passionate about the issue of gill netting and what is happening in Ireland and I know that the situation will not change unless these Irish pike groups/associations start getting their act together..It doesnt matter what species of fish that is treated in this way..it is just sheer barbarism to kill..oh,sorry,they relocate the fish..my ass!!!!just to satisfy the game fraternity..who probably kill most of the fish taken..anyway Des is more of a expert on this subject so no doubt he will say more on it..lets hope the inane replies made on this post in the Polls section also stops..Thanks for highlighting the post...

  20. Well done Elton..excellent reaction to this unfortunate event, I'm most impressed with yours and Gaffer's handling of the matter and the prompt reply of you both, for once it is refreshing to see the response of making the ordinary punter happy and not the supplier..I hope too there has been a big misunderstanding and this can be sorted out amicably..once again, plaudits to The Piker for his stand on this..the little guy often gets trod on and also to both of you Mods/Admin..and I hope Inline get this sorted and things get back to normal..
  21. Yeah well done Piker..these cowboys should be named and shamed,if they had problems with ur order then a email or personal landline call would have sufficed,is this gonna be a dilemma for this sites owner? a company who paid hard cash,(?) for advertising not playing the game..I think this will be a hard one for you,Elton..If the Piker has all the proof of paper contact and time and dates and copies of emails etc..then this lot should be made reply publically to redeem themselves..until then caution is called for.. Bobby
  22. Yeah this sucks big style..if its a new business then this is very bad business practice..or if its well established then this is inexcusable..people part with well earned money and get treated badly then 'Name and Shame' should be done ..looking forward to Thurs and I hope all will be sorted before then...Angling mail order generally has a good name. and if major suppliers cant deliver what they advertise, why advertise at all?
  23. I know the Piker and Jamesy personally and can vouch for their insanity..if you blank , make up a funny story to tell your fishing friends... on my regular chat with Des, no mention of this because he knows what i would say..Methinks the little green people's magic at work here...or lets just say..I saw his hemp mix and ..no more Bawb
