  1. I do a lot of cycling - most of it off road cross country stuff so I can enjoy the countryside. A few days back whilst out in the automobile I started to over take, well within the speed limits on a fairly wide village road, three lycra clad cyclists, two abreast and one behind. As I started to manoeuvre the one behind veered out to join his friends in a line of three abreast. His bike came so close to my automobile that I had to give him a friendly warning toot from my horn in accordance with the highway code. This warning tone was greeted with hand gestures from the cyclists, it would seem one of their tyres needed pumping up! Being the friendly chap that I am I pulled over onto the verge and offered my assistance. The cyclists, two male and one female with very rounded accents and an age of the mid fifties didn't have a puncture after all, they claimed I had tried to run one of their number down and further more had captured it on what can only be described as a covert recording device (not visible about their cycles or persons). They then took my automobile registration and gave a threat to lodge a formal complaint with the local constabulary. Oh good was my reply, I have the whole incident captured on that two way dash board mounted digital recording apparatus, would you like me to run it back for you? They FVCKED off rather quickly - most have been in a hurry to find refreshment or relieve themselves. :) :) :)

    Glasto

Glastonbury Festival fined for killing fish Following a prosecution led by the Environment Agency, a judge fined Glastonbury Festival organisers £31,000 for polluting 4km of the River Whitelake with 20,000 gallons of untreated sewage in 2014. The incident killed 42 fish. We ask all anglers to please report any potential pollution to our incident hotline - 0800 80 70 60. Where we’re able to identify the polluter we’ll take firm action, including prosecution, to help stop the offence recurring.
  3. So we left the EU on our own accord but were ejected from the Euros six days later? Why are they even called the Euros as a lot of teams are not even in Europe?

Kind of Correct, although I understand how it works this explains it: http://science.howstuffworks.com/nature/natural-disasters/lightning.htm Strike survivors have reported feeling themselves charge up moments before being hit. If during a storm you get that tingly feeling, hit the deck and roll away as fast as possible, you may get lucky and not get hit.

    A PB Barbel!

Nice fish, good work, I love short unplanned sessions - no expectation makes a nice fish an even better result.

Running up the garden path with 12ft of drennan carbon in my hand I had the same, also could see the ozone/air burning with little fireballs. I retreated to the bath room to clean up. Not a pleasant experience, could of damaged my favourite rod!

That must have been the fast moving one that was over channel islands as I went to bed.
  9. Watching lighteningmaps.org It just hit 206 strikes per minute. There's a monster storm hitting Belgium/Holland coast, another big one over channel islands and a smaller one in Brighton area. Watching it is mesmerising
  10. My daughters academy has tried and failed to give the students any guidance what so ever on the EU referendum. This was due to the teachers being unable to remain neutral! I have explained to both that there is no + or - , the whole thing is a matter of personal opinion and no one really has a clue as to what will happen whatever the outcome.
  11. The EU allows Beer, Cider and milk to be sold in pints as these are traditional measurements. BUT In a licenced premises - Only Beer or Cider can be served in pints, wines and spirits are in M/L. AND When sold in any other container other then a half/pint or jug containing pint measurements - the container will show litres or M/L. If the container is for a pint (Pint in a can) it will also show the measurement in m/l or L.
  12. I would normally get them from elsewhere when passing but the shop I used is the closest by around eight miles! Once riddled and cleaned the three quarters are ok. The dead ones have been cleaned, sandwich bagged, had a small dose of liquid flavouring, a coating of turmeric and are now frozen, they will be used in a ground bait mix further in to the season as will any unused live ones after a Stillwater Roach session one evening this week.

The real joke was when they signed my building work off - came round walked in - walked out two mins later and told me certificate would be received within two working weeks. Not to worry, I have two brown garden waste recycle bins and only pay for one!
  14. Purchase a pint in any licenced establishment and if its not right they will replace it. The pint is up to the pint mark with any head above it - buy a pint get a pint of decent brew. Purchase a pint of red maggots from some tackle shops and you don't get what you have paid for - once riddled why is it a good proportion are dead and there is also a percentage of bran or other medium that maggots are stored in? Its not all tackle shops of course - some value the bait they sell and look after it - others just see maggots as a side line whilst making money out of other items. Under the weight and measures act do you think you should get a full pint of live riddled maggots with a medium put in afterwards from all tackle shops?

That's the price of professionals and pirates.
  16. Its lucky he had no access to an AR15!
  17. Working all day and only managed an hour on a still water. Another surface caught carp in double figures, that's seven in four sessions from same water but a different peg each time as they follow the wind.
  18. The EU have imposed import licencing on certain steel products imported into the EU. The next step will be anti dumping duties in an effort to make EU companies buy from the EU. Six months too late For many in the UK HMRC and their counterparts across EU are now also trying to counter VAT fraud by the big fulfilment internet companies. Billions of pounds lost due to various EU customs authorities losing track of shipments move across EU borders.
  19. If UEFA kick England out of the Euros I suspect many minds will be made up.
  20. The EU only want us in to dump their garbage on and because we have nuclear weapons. If we leave they will be speaking Russian before they know it. The French do have some nucs buried under piles of red tape somewhere but don't know where the scissors are.
  21. I tried to report a car doing 60/70 that over took another car and a motorbike in my village (30 zone). They asked me if I had a dash cam? I told them no. Nothing we can do then unless one of the other road users also reports it then. Now above makes sense. The dash cam doesn't. Did they expect me to give chase for a mile to record the other drivers average speed then also prosecute me?
  22. Cheers for info, will bear that in mind. It will make it easier whilst watching and waiting for a subject to turn round or to fiddle with settings without losing the subject.
  23. I think they follow the tow and the tow brings easy pickings in the warmer months. the tow may not be where you think it is though!
  24. With my Daughters getting into taking a few snaps with I phones and now onto my DSLR combined with a relative giving me an old but very optically nice KOWA TSN scope and case it was time for a decent tripod and hide clamp. Tripod requirements were: 1. Has to be good enough to take a large scope as well as the DSLR. 2. Come with a decent head and a footplate (scope has its own velbon footplate). 3. Reliable, sturdy and hardy. 4. As cheap as possible!!!!!!!!!!!! 5. Have a removable centre column for use with a hide clamp. A velbon Sherpa 200R fits the bill nicely but a new one costs approx. £70 o £80 quid Took a look on ebay and followed a few - they go for approx. £40 - £50 secondhand. After a few weeks spotted someone selling a PH157Q (that was ebay description), a PH157Q is a three way pan head that come with the Sherpa - so took a look. The actual item being sold was a Velbon Delta tripod with a PH157Q and the footplate. Done some research and a Velbon delta is the same as a Velbon Sherpa, it was badged for a company called In focus - simple as that. This was confirmed by Velbon. Started watching - no bids, to cut a long story short I won it for £27 including delivery - BARGIN - its in tip top condition. Now the reason I am posting is because of the hide clamp, hence the title. After two months not even seen one on ebay in an auction, plenty of Velbon ones for approx. £45 new I suspect most people buy a hide clamp, fit the correct insert, throw away the others and keep the hide clamp with their tripod (which makes sense). A bit of online research reveals there is a clamp by Opticron for £30, Vebon for £45 or Manfrotto for £60 - a big difference in price for a bit of kit that does the same. More research and not many answers as to why the price difference - maybe better built, better materials - who knows? So I rand a very well known scope/bino/birding shop AND ASKED! The answer: Comparing side by side the Opticron and Velbon are identical apart from company marking, so much so they concluded they come from same factory - as do the infocus delta ones. The manfrotto ones are different and have an insert for use with carbon fibre centre columns. The shop owners thoughts were that people like their hide clamp to match the same make as their tripod - its that simple! Sounds like many anglers doesn't it :) have to have kit that matches or a certain name on it. I have purchased an opticron version and can honestly say its a great piece of kit and that the pictures on all websites do not do it any justice at all. Conclusion: Save yourself a tenner and buy the Opticron one - I have now compared against a relatives velbon version and can confirm they are almost identical!
  25. TBH my own angling adventures are few and far between these days. Only been ten times this year with five blank sessions, the last of these in a pond full of fish in perfect weather conditions - or so I thought, they were not having it and it was not just me on a short evening session, two other members had been fishing for thirteen hours without a sniff - that's fishing!
