  1. Ant I'm told the Lochaline hotel is fully booked for the weekend. You could try the Strontian Hotel, about 30 minutes drive from Lochaline: http://www.thestrontian.co.uk/ Although Paul will confirm for me that the new owners are an 'acquired' taste (which no-one in Strontian has yet acquired )
  2. Davy you forgot to mention that when Guy hooked his Kelpie, he promptly handed the rod to someone else to winch it in for him What form is the 'competition' taking btw?
  3. As I said, excellent rods for their time and still good today....a bit heavy when compared to the modern slimline blanks available now (although they'll cost you).
  4. Both were good for 6ozs. Sport had a slightly stiffer tip and could lob 8ozs easily. I had a new pair of Fireblade Matches in about 1996..think they stopped making them around 2000/01. Excellent rods for their time and will still do a good job now, even if they are a little heavy by today's standards.
  5. Have to agree with Norrie.....fish that size wouldn't pass 100lb
  6. Well one of us will be there That's when he makes it out of his bed for breakfast
  7. Never mind the tea........what about the fresh home-made bread on the way home
  8. I'm told by some that the noises you make while sleeping are like the sounds that angels feet make when dancing on the clouds; Whilst others have said it's like the Space Shuttle is taking off in the same room
  9. Just thought that maybe I could keep jabee talking to stop him falling asleep and scaring the locals with his snoring
  10. Why haven't you invited me when that git's going
  11. Not another one.........don't do it; you have no idea how silly you'll look.
  12. They'll be wondering where you've been, Teapot............Although tales of a mad Englishmen from the Sunart Hotel have probably made it to Lochaline by now I'll make sure I'm up for the weekend of festivities at least!
  13. Didn't know you had a 484 Norrie. Will have to let me have a look and maybe a swing when I'm up next
  14. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Aug 1 2006, 04:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately the alloy tube corrodes after contact with salt water, as a few big hitters have found. Time was that you could buy alloy tubes from tackle dealers to make up butt sections for beach rods! never had a Longbow or a 484! Anyone remember the Zziplex NG1
  15. On this occasion, perhaps If they keep raking over the seabed like that, one day there'll be nothing left
  16. I certainly do think he tried to put things into layman's terms - and in doing so, he described trawl tearing up a 360ft wide strip along the seabed, leaving nothing much as it was in it's wake
  17. Wonder if anyone picked up when the skipper of the Prawn boat 'Amity' compared his fishing to a tractor ploughing a field and went on to describe the size and width of net/gear he was dragging along the seabed, picking up virtually anything in it's path
  18. Nicely done guys. Is the use of a 'tailer' the normal way of landing these fish and does it impose the same kind of stress on organs/internal structure as holding a small shark such as a Tope up by the tail?
  19. Saw the whole program Always considered all RNLI volunteers to be heroes above virtually anything or anyone else. Last night's programme served to reinforce this view. Bravery and dedication that few of us could dream of possessing under such circumstances. As a regular angler, mostly from a boat, I regularly donate to the RNLI- best money I've spent.
  20. Birthday Party........????? When, Where
  21. It's each to his own I guess. Have been using a North Western 12lb and 20lb for 80% of my fishing for the last four years. In that time, I haven't seen or tried a rod I would switch to instead.
  22. No need - just go fish off the other side
