  1. It does take time to get used too as it's pretty secure & hi-tech PHP based site thats prone to bots & e-mail harvesters that nick your e-mail addy then u get spammed loads so you have to have security coded log-in nowadays unfortunately I've disabled e-mail verification to make it easier & will disable the security code for now while poor Bill goes back to school & learns to use the site, he he. Should be good for the UK & put us well on the map  Starvin I thought your site is called Anglers Afloat m8 I hope there's not a problem there, I'll check it out immediately, sorry if there's a problem there
  2. Yakity & me have been setting up a new site over the last couple of weeks for UK Yakkers, it's a site of our own that will hopefully share all possible info for us loons, LOL It's ready to use now so come and have a look, give us ideas & lend a hand to build it up! We've set links back to here & any others we can find so don't worry about this excellent forum, we won't be going anywhere Wish us luck!
  3. Excellent! thanks Speciman & Bill  I'll definately save up for a better paddle now! Mines just bog standard & does seem to go deep when paddling. I've tried paddling lightly, sort of not putting the paddle in so deep (fully into the water) & it does seem to be a lot easier on my arms but I haven't been able to gauge the difference yet Is there a paddling technique or do you just do your best/as you see fit ? Here's a look at my paddle, note the grip tape which I find a real bonus for wet hands As for Aluminium, I thought it didn't rot & thats why it's used for sea gear ? I think we better find out pretty sharpish though, LOL [ 27. May 2005, 10:10 AM: Message edited by: NEA Andy ]
  4. I got a paddle with my 2nd hand Pyranha Surf Jet 305 a couple of years back & it's just the basic model. I'm wondering whether or not it's worth buying another paddle as I don't know the difference ? I dip the paddle in & push water, LOL but recent readings have lead me to think I need something more! Any ideas ?
  5. Yakity Yak and myself (NEA Andy) are setting this up and it's now useable enough to let peeps know about it We're building this site together and need help from all the UK Yakkers so come on over and give us a hand, there'll hopefully be a direct front page link back to the incredible yak fishing forums here if it's ok. Here's to a gr8 new sport in a gr8 country!
  6. Geoff, eBay.co.uk is gr8 for them but keep an eye on postage costs as it's very difficult to post a Kayak/Canoe. I've both bought & sold them on there & it's a nightmare if there's a good distance between buyer & seller and you need a Courier to transport it & the cheapest I found without a conract was £120 I've just had a look on Ad Trader in the North East of England today & the prices as u say are OTT. Most of the yaks I saw were both distant (to me)& over priced as well! Maybe it's best to buy new & pay the £20-£30 carriage on it or haggle for a paddle in with it ?
  7. The link works fine Simon, sorry I disguised it in the text of my post so it must be easy to miss it's in the word shorty in the post above m8 I think I'll get a shorty & a pair of them shoes too cos they look canny at £9
  8. We got a catalogue in the post today & as I looked through all the s***e I came across this shorty they look ok to me & might be ok as a 2nd wet suit. There's a web addy in the book so I found it & so had a look on-line. There's also some neoprene booties/shoes for £8.99 which look excellent for summer fishing! Well worth a look! [ 25. 9. It's easy to go out with your drain plug open as I proved last time out I'd left it open to help dry the yak out. I was so keen to get out that I forgot to check it, so it's well worth mentioning.
  10. Excellent idea Olly! I brew my own wine & have got a few corks & bungs lying around that were spare, the two to the left fit my Percepion scooter but I'll need a good bit of rope to fill the hole in the centre. The one on the right is the one you've used I think ? it should fit most Ocean yaks as their scupper holes are wider diameter. Yes you can get them in Wilkinsons too & a lot cheaper than the £15 I shelled out for mine
  11. Dunno m8 but if he'd honked his horn I reckon I'd have flew over the Pier, LMAO There's a N/E wind here at the moment & is due to stay all weekend so it looks like I'm in for a dry weekend cos the seas choppy as owt
  12. Excellent Jaffa, 5 Codling I wouldn't know where to put them, LOL well done m8  [ 12. May 2005, 08:04 PM: Message edited by: NEA Andy ]
  13. I've just got back from fishing the mouth of the river Tyne. Wor lass took the kids to the fair while I bobbed about it the harbour for an hour. I paddled up to the Post on South Shields Pier, dropped a set of Mackerel daylites with an 8oz weight on into the set edge at one hour to top & drifted across the harbour in the South Easterly breeze. I got nowt but had the pleasure of the company of what I can only think was a small Coley that followed me across the harbour & back & everytime I stopped jigging the daylites it would nibble at them but wouldn't take the hook !mad I tried always to hook it without success and gave up when I heard voices behind me. I turned my head to see a f****n big DFDS Seaways ferry not 100 yards away steaming out to sea !?!? it was the ships tannoy talkin to the passengers so I wound up & paddled like mad to get out of the way & prepare for the wake then the jet skiiers arrived with trailing rubber rings & banana boats galore so I headed in just in time to meet up with the brood on the beach. All in all I've had a gr8 day, been out twice on the yak, gettin fitter every week & lovin it. Fish less but happy  ps: I copied & pasted that from my fishin site so forgive any geordie twang,
  14. Wow, this is better nice one! now we can find all the threads easier. I was going to ask but being new here it's a bit cheeky I came in to post this link to ebay cos there's a yak the same as mine on there & someone might be intersted http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=ADME:B:WN:UK:1
  15. Sorry YY I've just seen this, I thoroughly enjoyed my 1st trip out with a rod 'n' reel & found out a lot of stuff that I need to get to grips with if I'm to keep on yak fishing! There's a lot of stuff we need to address as Anglers if we're to enjoy the sport in Britain. There's a lot of issues I need to post about & not enought time or space to post them so I'm setting a site up especially for us to put it all in. I'll post more as soon as I can. A big welcome gans out to GUS who joined recently,in another thread,

  17. Nice one Elainee, AVG is free & excellent as long as you update it regularly. I use it as well as Spysweeper & am very confident that I'm protected. Here's a link to Spysweeper hopefully, http://www.webroot.com/downloads/?WRSID=8b...f66b23f3046dfb2 it should just ask u to save to disk, if not just d/l the free trial & run it. It's a gr8 d/l for anyone & I swear by it after trying all of them. Another thing to remember is that Internet Explorer is constantly under attack by hi-jacker trojans so keep your Windows version up to date. I don't use IE for browsing & only use Firefox, get it at www.mozilla.com it's a lot safer & a lot better in every way. It's good to see ppl sharing their advice, nice one  [ 08. 18. try going to http://www.webroot.com & download SPYSWEEPER. It's the best trojan remover around. I thought that much of it that I paid for it (and thats saying summmit) req.dll is a driver file which means its part of a program. Check that a trojan hasn't added any daft programs by looking in control panel- add remove programs. I would definately try spysweeper though Elainee! Do a search for this nasty piece of s**t code: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.ConHook.c it's a trojan that presents itself as "req.dll" and is designed to steal your personal details from your PC. Spysweeper should get it, if not use the update you get with it & it should find it then [ 07. May 2005, 05:47 PM: Message edited by: NEA Andy ]
  19. Your not supposed to edit or remove an item once there's bids on it unless you've stated that it's advertised elsewhere & you'll remove it if sold elsewhere. I know as I sold 10 sets of daylites for £1.20 last week but went ahead & sent them as it was my mistake, not the customers. I would contact e-bay if you feel cheated but contact the seller about it first as they may have a valid explanation! good luck.
  20. David I understand your not wanting to admit to owning a jetski as the feeling between Anglers & jet skiiers is not a good one in general but as an Angler yourself at least u understand the needs of of Anglers space on the beaches. I say got for it m8 & enjoy your boys toys, LOL When I bought the Scooter I never ever thought I'd be fishing from it on a regular basis but bought it as an all round fun boat & it's certainly living up to it's description I took a couple of pics to show the rod holders I discovered when I went fishing the other night. The boat rod fits neatly into the front scupper holes well out of the way of the paddle area & also fits into the front handle/ring for changing rigs The area I fish is mostly very heavy rough ground & wrecks, hence the 50lb mono & 30-50lb rod but I can't wait to take the spinning rod out for Mackerel when they arrive here in the N.East at the end of May. I noticed the other night that when snagged, your very vunerable due to being on a small craft & I was unable to get any real leverage on the line to pull the rig free from the rope it was caught on so had to cut the mono at the surface & lose the line At least it's only cheap mono I'm losing though & not braid which I normally use on a boat Here's the pics of my rod holders; Hell I could even tie a sail to the rod [ 05. 22. Some sites are built with a shopping cart script thats sends an automated e-mail of which the contents are written in a site file somewhere. It's possible that the e-mail sent was written as 'postage of £8' & needs editing to say £3 for that item, just a thought like! I've ordered from Jims a good few times & can't praise them enough. They even rang me at home once to make sure I got my order! I don't know of many on-line dealers that'd go to those lengths to satisfy a customer? Nice to see they came good & you got your rod at the price agreed )
  23. NEA Andy: Andy Winter (NEA = North East Angling) Location: South Shields, North East Coast (Newcastle way)UK Kayak: Perception Scooter (never thought about naming it) hmmm) Colour: its got a posh name for it but basically its orange & won't get missed from the sky e-mail: andywinta at msn.com Giz a shout if ever ya up in the North East owa the Summer & we'll meet up for a paddle
  24. Hi Seadoo David, I've just posted my 1st yak fishin experience in the yak chat thread, nice to see like minded ppl here  Tell us more of this new-fangled "O.A.G.L.E" & especially the "get another person to buy medicine, LMAO
  25. Well I had my 1st yak fishing experience tonight from 6-7pm & it was class  The sea was flat as a witches t*t & I walked straight down the steps of the local beach & into the water & paddled out to the hard ground about 1 mile out. As I set up at the waters edge I noticed that the butt of my rod fits nicely into a scupper hole so I was made up! I put it into the foremost hole in front of my feet & it just looks like a mast, LOL Once I'd reached a known hard ground/wreck marker I slid the paddle into the grab line to my right & placed the butt of my rod into the nose loop/handle which meant I could put a rig on with the rod tip right in front of me at the exact height which is pretty canny. I then drifted along the hard ground for about an hour before this massive black cloud suddenly built up above me & I headed promptly back to shore with the rod lying flat in case of lightening (sphincter puttngly frightening) YY: I used my Abu 9000 as it was ready to go & loaded with 50lb mono. I normally use it for rough ground cliff top work from the shore or back up from the boats. It was gr8 to use it again & in only about 50-70ft of water (or so it felt) the mono was fine over the heavy kelp & snags. Is 50lb different to what you use & what do you use as in tactics & tackle wise ? I've got loads more to say but don't want to hog the forum thread so I'll shut up, ha ha
