  1. Hi Bally, no problem. Every description carries a bit more information and helps to hammer the point home. Pete
  2. No change for us 'mature' chappies. There was a change for the 'disabled', you now need a blue 'disabled' badge to qualify for the disabled concession. Pete
  3. Try 4lb Powergum for your marker. And, as worm... said, don't rely on overcasting and winding back if you are using a swimfeeder. Tie the marker so that it is at the tip of the rod when the feeder is in the chosen spot. Cast out and, when the marker shoots up through the rod rings, put your finger on the spool to stop the line. It might be a bit clumsy at first but you get used to casting to a spot and be able to hit it without too much trouble. Pete
  4. Sorry but I can't be sure of the proportions. I would try a mug of sausage rusk and a teaspoon of horlicks. Add water carefully and work the mixture till it is a smooth paste.
  5. Back in the dim and distant past, when we were using sausage rusk paste as a tench bait, I tried Horlicks as a flavour. It was a good bait in the sense that it caught tench. Unfortunately, Horlicks ruined the structure of the paste and it would break down after 10 minutes in the water. It might have worked in a boilie mix. Pete
  6. Well done Chris. And your attitude to the small fish is dead right, not wanting them is the way you progress. Pete
  7. Hi Leeds. When you set up your tackle, adjust the drag so that you can pull line off without too much effort. Once you have started fishing, adjust the drag so that line pulls off the reel when whatever is on the other end pulls your rod round to about 90 degrees. If fishing with a mate, get the your mate to pull the end. That is a good starting point. From here on it is, as Anthony said, experience. Fiddle with it until it feels right. Pete
  8. Hi. Isotopes last for ages. Mine are at least 10 years old and they are still brighter than me. Pete
  9. While on the subject of alien fish, what happened with the motherless minnows that were going to take over our fisheries. Pete
  10. Katch, many times I wonder about the people who post on here. As I said before, the last time that I fished Coombe there were two matches. Our club had a match on the pegs before the outlet and there was a match on the pegs at the far end. Pete
  11. To the Dark One. You asked if it gets busy at Coombe. Most weekends you will find stretches of the public bank reserved for matches. It is some years since I fished there but on my last trip there were two separate matches on that bank. Pete
  12. Looks good and I hope the members appreciate your efforts. One comment on the introductory text - delete 'new' from 'Welcome to the new website of' Pete
  13. What I read in the AT was that they, the EA, had accepted that they might use gill nets if other sampling methods failed. Do you really think that the EA don't know what the reaction will be if they use these nets when and where they are not needed? Pete
  14. A36 road works. If you plan to use the A36 (Salisbury to Southampton) please note that is closed at Wellow (just North of the junction with the M27) for the next seven weeks.
  15. Joel, Lakeside Lodges was discussed in a recent AnglersNet forum but I can't find it. No doubt somebody more competent than me can find it for you. Pete
  16. The Maver Matchtek 13, M2700, is a super rod for trotting and there is an optional extension to 15'. Well worth looking at. Regards
  17. Gordon Bennet. Not the start of another 6 or seven pages of rubbish about how good or bad everyone is. And it strikes me that PeterK ought to say who he is and why he so anxious to stir up trouble. Pete
  18. Andy, I treated myself to a JRC Stealth Brolley system this year. The only moan I have is condensation when the weather is such that you need the front panel on. Otherwise it is a good piece of kit and I haven't regretted buying it. Most of my bivvying is on two or three night sessions and the Stealth Brolley is perfect for that. I have a friend who has used one as a two-man bivvy for longer session and reckons it was OK, but they probably left most of the gear in the van. (I don't recall seeing any pocket for your bottle of stimulant.) Pete
  19. First, join the ACA: an absolute must if you want to see polluters pay. Then you can take your time to decide which of the others does the best job in organising, and fighting for, the sort of fishing that you like. My own choice was to support the SAA, have a look at their website and see what you think. Pete
  20. Yes Elton, elvers are around £500 per kilo, Or they would be if you could find any.
  21. Talking about Reel Care, I thought that they had closed and said so recently on an Anglers' Net thread. Now, much to me relief, I find that the Reel Care telephone number still works and I am waiting to see if they can overhaul my Mitchells. (The shop that they were in is boarded up and has been so for several years.)
  22. My Boss trolley has served me well for years. Bags of room for a day trip, two loads if I am spending a couple of nights on the water. I have seen adverts for a similar trolley but cannot remember the makers name. Regards, pete
  23. Hi Jeepster. What about you survey the North, I survey the South and Ricey provides the funds?
  24. I agree with all of the previous replies but suggest that you should find out what the anglers on the lake are doing. Given a small lake with not too much weed and no big fish, I would choose a light leger/feeder rod set up with a cage feeder,6lb mainline, 3 or 4 lb hook link and size 14 StarPoint hook. Use whatever is the going bait on the water, though pellets, maggots and sweetecorn probably work everywhere. Groundbait bans do not apply to feeders so you get your groundbait in by filling the feeder and recasting regularly. If you use maggots, use a blockend feeder. For other baits, use a cage feeder. With a cage feeder you need to mix some ordinary groundbait to hold your free offerings in the feeder when you cast. Mix a bit of ordinary groundbait, put some groundbait in one end of the feeder and press to stop stuff falling out, top the feeder up with whatever you are using (pellets, hemp, sweetcorn, particles or whatever)and then block the other end with a wodge of groundbait. Before you start fishing, spend some time casting full feeders into your chosen swim. This way you will lay down some free offerings to get the fish interested.
  25. Thanks to Newt and John for the linking details. It won't be long before I find something that demands lots of active links. Yours, Pete
