  1. Yes and no Ian. The 2006 Record book arrived last week. For most line class and all tackle records fish are not eligible if weighed at sea or on a body of water. Obviously fish caught from shore can be returned alive after weighing and photographing. For bass, bonefish and snook the fish may be weighed on the boat, photographed and returned alive. The IGFA grand slam and royal grand slam clubs are still catch and release trophies. Stan
  2. Thanks Colin , been investigating and the Vossler is looking promising, cheers
  3. Elton & YYUK Thanks for the pointers to the sites guys, I`ll give them a good look over later, I had an Airflow last year but must admit to getting rid of it fairly quickly, good enough reel but seemed a bit off balance when turning hard, may just have been that individual reel. The Scierra is fine I use a smaller scierra for the rainbows and that one has a superb drag and is a nicely balanced reel, problem is the larger version mat still be a bit under when it comes to capacity. I`m looking at white marlin on 20lb test (IGFA max for fly) so being none to expert at it on fly (for none to expert read abysmall) I think I`d be happy with large diameter and wider arbor to allow a fair amount of backing. Then again you can double the backing rated using some of the modern ones. Want to get it right so will take a bit more time.
  4. Thanks for that pointer MJB, Abel 12 would be nice but cant justify about £600 for something that may only be used one or two trips in a season. Bughet say, £100-£150 more realistic, (hope her indoors dont read this
  5. On the lookout for a saltwater fly reel, 12 weight, any ideas?
  6. Probably is the same species Mike. The largest cod ever recorded (commercially caught) was off the Grand Banks and weighed in at a whopping 212lb, exact same species. The IGFA all tackle record came from Isle of Shoals, New Hampshire USA (Gadhus morhua) in 1969 and weighed in at 98lb 12 oz.
  7. Cant kid us Jan, Chesters spot on, Miami vice, Starsky and splutch, Hawaii fiveO, Hill st blues, everything in the states begins with 555 And you all earn $200 a day plus expenses and drive around in ford torinos or firebirds, no way you can fool us. ***Long Pause*** **Longer Pause****** How does that work in the states? not sure if we could do that over here
  8. Find a new girlfriend that likes real food, not rabbit fodder. Try her out on steak done rare, blood dripping off it, heard it descibed as "cut the horns off and wipe the butt"
  9. DavyR, quite correct, perhaps I should have made it general large companies, not just public sector however most of us deal in some way or another with the public sector most weeks, be it postal refuse collection, transport or whatever and most if not all of them have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. I am all for health and safety but, for example the refuse diposal operatives to give them their PC name, ( I prefer good old fashioned midgie men as thats what they do, they empty the midgie bins [Glasgow term]) They will not take the wheelie bin if it is more than a certain distance from where their lorry can stop, might tire them out I suppose poor souls, (blocking every other poor barsteward of course trying to work) then the lazy good for nothing sods leave the goddamed things lying anywhere, six doors away, middle of the street, lazy good for nothing wasters who should be sacked as should the dumb buttwipe who dreamt it up. Recently went to buy some timber from B & Q. The pack was strapped with the plastic tape. Asked the guy for a knife to open it but he had to come and do it with his super dooper little saftey aware PC knife that would`nt cut butter. To make it worse he admitted it was crap but had to attend a half hour lecture on how to use it, Aye Feckin right. Some dim witted 16 year old out of school gets a half hour safety talk from some equally dim witted B&Q high flyer on how to use the **** poor knife and then knows better than a joiner or brickie or plumber or whomsoever who has been doing it for decades. Load of H&S & PC bovine excrement. Sack all these asswipes and the self rightous " contact us and we`ll sue on your behalf" pratts who advertise and we might get on better. Whats the advert??? I was asked to lift a heavy box without any safety training and hurt my back" Hard crap, sack the bugger for costing company time and probably damaging the box. Your average 12 year old knows how to lift heavy things. Bunch of girls blouses the whole feckin` lot of them. End of another rant and (almost) no swear words.
  10. Here`s a little gem of an E mail I received today from a client. Background is simple, I had renovated a rod for him about a week or so ago, (4 piece 9ft fly rod) so overall length was about 2ft 6ins or so when packed. I sent it down using one of the Conoflex "toblerone" boxes they ship in. I sent it by Post Office special delivery with no problem at all, £4.80 or thereabouts. Client wanted another one renovated, similar in size so decided to send it up today in the package I had used to send the first one down. Simpler to let his e mail to me take over at this point. " Hi Stan I had a bit of a problem today sending the rod. The lady at the PO said I couldn't send it by special delivery because it wasn't classifies as a roll or tube and that because of this it had to be less than 600mm long. I explained to her that you had sent this same package only the day before by SD. She would have none of it and wouldn't accept it. I was pretty **** off. There's no common sense in that. As I don't have time to package it up like the first time because of my holiday prep I just sent it with DHL. The lady at the PO gave me the option to send it parcel post at £30. Ya right I told her. However I went to DHL and they could ship it for me. I wanted you to get it before I went on holiday so we could communicate about it. Anyway you should have it Sat morn." Possibly it`s me, but either the post office are a bunch of dim witted good for nothing layabouts with no customer service included in their PC and health and safety training or they are simply at it. Possiibly they want to lose business or there is some long term plan in mind for something or other. Can`t really explain what I`m trying to say as I am becoming totally dumfounded by their antics and indeed the PC an I aint got a brain cell so I have to go by the book attitude of most public bodies. They seem incapable of surviving without the appropriate little form being dotted in the right place (god help you if you tick where you should have dotted) I personally believe that this country would get on far far better if we had a reduction of something in the region of 60 per cent of the produce nothing in their life pen pushers, and the better part of 99 per cent of the cloud cuckoo land PC asswipes. Even read the other gem that some pathetic head teacher in England has banned hot cross buns at the school easter party in case they offend non christians. Nothing funny in it, she should simply be sacked and lose all pension rights on the spot. End of rant and not a swear word in site
  11. Confirmed what I`ve thought for years

  13. Took five shots before I realised you could reverse in. Then I whumped the back of it as well Stupid game is broken
  14. I can live with it, no bother at all
  15. Had an African Grey for almost five years. Sure he sleeps in the cage but the rest of the time sits on top of it, climbs up and down it, sits on the shoulder, follows me into the workshop, switches the telly on itself (remote button, the bugger knows which one) Generally never shuts up talking, singing, whilstling etc etc. He dont really seemed that **** off to me
  16. Some eyeseight that pilot, he was over London.
  17. Also fairly reminiscent of the Outer Hebrides If you try fishing on sunday
  18. Ah well, Gore aint the brightest candle on the cake but nice to see something good came out of Washington, grovel grovel
  19. Billy, you may have mis-read my post M8. I was pointing out that although there may be a million muslims in UK there are far more christians or others so its the muslims who need to look hard and fast to find a way forward, not us. Let them fit into our way of life, worship as they please but keep it to themselves, dont force it on us. Think they could also do with getting a sense of humour. get the giant chip off their shoulders and stop being so insecure. If Islam is that great then it should easily be able to shrug off a few cartoons. Who knows what would have happened if Life Of Brian was directed at Islam.
  20. aint that where the illustrious and exceedingly intelligent Mr Gore comes from
  21. Got me totall confused now Newt. I thought in Bushland you called the bits that make first contact fenders the bit you are calling fron and rear fenders I`d call mudguards and the bit your calling bumber I`d call bull bar bit its in the position a bumber would be Think I`ll go to bed Why my bumper turning out as bumber///
  22. quote: I dunno, just thinking aloud and have no definitive answers but just acting in an equally intransigent way doesnt seem like its gonna move matters forward. Like em or hate em, there are over a million muslims in Britain so one way or another we need to find a way forward. And over 47 million christians, perhaps it is the absolute minority million who need to seek a way forward
  23. Will do that in the not too distant future. At the moment no bumpers, (fenders for Newt) light clusters or glass and masking tape everywhere ready for a paint job
