  1. Just outside Huntingdon, where pray tell, or is it a secret????? Not the Woolpack is it?????
  2. Been there, got the T-Shirt. It's VERY well run and facilities are good but noise from A1 is unbearable thru night, just a constant drone all night. Last time I ventured that way I had a "party" going on on the opposite bank, noise, bright (and I mean bright!!) lights ALL bloody night. They cleared off about 6 o'clock so bailiff could not speak to them. Said he had their names (assuming they booked using true names) and that they would never fish there again. Unfortunately the place does seem to attract the "wrong" sort of angler who prefer the social to actually catching fish. I'm with you Rob, prefer quiet scenic venues at least if I "blank" I can enjoy my surroundings. Not too close to Baldock I'm afraid, more between St Ives and St Neots (Papworth).
  3. There weren't may fishing it when we had a look around. Big, clear and seemingly featureless lake but sounds like hard slog !!!!! Good idea on the local tackle shops. We had a quick quint towards Heron Lake (syndicate fee £350) and I found their web-site yesterday. Looks superb but expensive and I assume there will be a waiting list. Anyone got any info on this lake??? Gingerbread is nice looking lake but VERY close to the noisy A428. Had a quick chat to one of the locals when we walked round and he said there was a reasonable head of double/low 20's which showed fairly frequently. Basically my mate and I are looking to find a nearby lake (within 25 miles) we can both join. He's currently a member @ Gingerbread and I'm "doing time" @ The Woolpack, Godmanchester. We are both struggling to bank fish and looking to share more "social bank time". It's a case of me wanting him to join WP and him wanting me to join GB so conclusion is to find a "neutral" venue we can both join so that neither feels disadvantaged by having to fish "away from home" so-to-speak!!!!!
  4. Went for a quick reccie last night and was quite impressed with the main lake. It's controlled by Luton AC and looks really nice. 24hr tickets are only a tenner (on the bank). Just wondering if anyone out there has fished or is fishing there. Also reccied Gingerbread lake @ St Neots, again, any info appreciated. Thanks - Phil
  5. C'mon guys, surely someone out there has fished or can give me some clues as to what these lakes are like?
  6. Go here and have a look, pics aren't brilliant but holdall is!!! My wifew bought me one for my birthday in January, superb piece of kit, best on market IMHO. Be warned however they are absolutely HUGE, and I mean HUGE. Can also become very heavy (when fully loaded) and a tad cumbersome. Wouldn't swap mine for the world though. http://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/catalog/pro...roducts_id=2356
  7. Anyone fished these lakes? Simon Crow's review in Carp world reads well but checked their web-site out and it doesn't give too much away. Only about 40 mins drive from home so fancy giving them a crack but wanna do a bit of homework first.
  8. Thanks guys, great help. Sorry for delay just got back from 2 weeks hols in Yorkshire.
  9. Never mind, your day will come, eventually !!!!!!!!
  10. As I recall that game finished 3-3 so no disgrace for Leicester there mate. It was a BRILLIANT hat-trick though, like I said DB10, "Simply the Best" The new stadium is amazing, just hope the football matches it this season.
  11. Thanks guys, I've got a rake tucked away in the garage with my tench/bream gear so I'll give it a go. Also good idea on the chucking out pellets and let the carp do the work for me, could get a tad expensive though!!! How soon does this weed die-off naturally, will it take a few frosts before the lake-bed starts to clear or is it when the Summer sun weakens (September-ish!!) ????
  12. Any other Gooners out there? If so did you go the the game on Saturday? what a day, Dennis Bergkamp a TRUE footballing legend you'll be sorely missed by footie fans everywhere, not just us Gooners. Quite simply THE BEST EVER foreign player to grace our shores by a country mile, also the most loyal.
  13. Hi all, Struggling to cope with the weed thats choking the lake I'm fishing. It's a mixture of Canadian pond weed and I think the other is Silk weed. I've tried leading around with a marker float but cannot locate any clear areas at all, seems the entire lake bed is strewn with the bloody stuff. Moreoften than not my marker float wont even rise to the surface because the weed is so prolific. Been fishing single Pineapple and Tutti-Frutti pop-ups (about 2-3 inches off bottom) over shed-loads of mixed pellets but with no success. Tried Snowman approach last Thursday night but again nothing except a couple of liners (which surely means there's fish in or nearby the swim). The lake in question is approx 7-8 acres and has a good head of fish with at least five known thirties with numerous doubles and twenties and should therefore it should be relatively easy to get a run or two, but no, not a sniff can I get. When I arrived last Thursday evening the bailiff told me the lake had not been touched all week and the I was the first to wet a line since the previous Sunday. I even had the whole lake to myself ALL Thursday night, a perfect scenario but still no runs/fish came my way. I've really struggled all this year, and last come to that and I'm getting very disillusioned having only banked a few tench. Can anyone offer me guidance as to how to beat the weed problem because it's almost the last straw for me. Before the weed growth "exploded" I was at least was confident that I'd get a fish sooner or later and that it was simply a waiting game before a few fish came my way but now I've been reduced to a jibbering wreck and spent most of Thursday night swearing AT the lake and cursing to myself about what a "sh!t hole" I was fishing and why was I wasting annual leave spending time here, you know the sorta thing I'm sure!!!! Anyway to help my sanity can someone throw a few tips my way and maybe help me put a fish or two on the scales. Ta Muchly!!!
  14. Just avoid getting paint on the two metal sensors on the bottom I would guess. Why not use coloured permanent marker pens, would be less messy than paint and easier to apply. On this subject, apparently "green" tugboats (as I call them) are illegal over her in UK. I got mine from USA and now worried about using it but I see an advert (think it's Sheltons( in one of the monthly mags with a picture showing a green tugboat. We've done this thread before but seeing that advert has made me wonder if I'm being daft not to use mine.

    Snoring

Yep!! or so I'm reliably informed by 'er that's never wrong!!!! Apparently gets a LOT worse if I've had a glass of wine............
  16. I've got one too, superb bit-a-kit, can't fault it other than "crappy" groundsheet.
  17. Thanks guys, good advice here as usual. I'll give the Carp Cabin a ring.
  18. Yep, works fine close in (under rod tip) in approx 2-3ft of water. Bottom of lake is a tad weedy but not silted up. Lines twisting on the cast is a possiblity but I have used a stiff boom to try and overcome this.
  19. Lost my large MCF marker float a few weeks ago and bought an identicle but much smaller version (also MCF) to replace it. The packing said for use with leads up to 3oz which I thought would be fine. I use Fox braid specifically for marker float work so all is well except for the fact that the smaller float will simply NOT rise to the surface which more-or-less renders it useless. I'm only casting 40-50 yards so surely it's not the weight/drag of the braid stopping it coming to the surface. The lake is not tooooooo weedy but to counter that I've tried using the lead on a stiff boom (without sucess). Reckon I'll just have to scrap the small float (anothe £6.99 wasted) and look for the bigger brother!!! Has anyone seen or used the MCF "lighthouse" marker float? or can anyone suggest a truly bouyany (and robust) option.
  20. So what about a mini-portable in my bivvy?? If my license only covers my property and not ME (the person) do I need to buy another license for my bivvy???????????? surely not!!! or worse still every lake I decide to go and fish???????
  21. Bad move IMHO go for the Dave Lane JRC Sti brolly absolutely brilliant kit. Can buy for £99 anf for another £64 you've got y'self a twin skin jobbie for winter sessions
  22. Me Too, Twenty Eight times !!!!!!!
  23. Strange coincidence !!!!! just got off the phone ringing roung to get my Chrysler Neon A/C re-gased or charged or whatever and best price I found was £65 + VAT. Seems like a lotta wonga to part with and so wondered if anyone out there knows of anyone I can contact to get a better price. Seen offers as low as £49 all-in but not in my area. I live sorta half way between Cambridge and Bedford (Nr St Neots & Huntingdon). Surely there must be cheaper places to get it done????????
  24. Can't your in-box is full. I might be interested but need to discuss first.
