  1. I use to work in a power station the intake screens used to have a very exspensive sonic fish deterent system but the screens still had alot of fish on them particularly small juvernile fish of all species. Some of the other lads there had worked at other stations that had bubble screens and various other systems but there was still alot of fish deaths, the force of the intake pumps is to powerful for any fish to resist if they venture to close to intake they get sucked in, while there I saw bass up to 5lb in the inlet bay.
  2. I have said before that I would pay a license fee for see angling when and only when the marine envoironment is treated the same as the rivers and lakes I also fish. I do fish in fresh water a great deal, living very close to the norfolk broads the roach and bream fishing is as good as ever this is due to the fact that the water quality and aquatic life is monitored and looked after and any signs of envoironmental damage or abuse is quickly dealt with if I thought for one minute that defra would behave the same way even on a say 1 mile wide strip of shore like the one Ive seen proposed. I do not want any guarantees on catches just a level playing field and to feel like I stand a good chance when I go to the bother of arranging tackle, bait, travel etc. As for a good days fishing this is any days fishing provided the weed and commercials stay out of casting range.
  3. I have had an original buddy' for about 15 years it has never let me down. Sitting in a cold North easterly on Pakefield beach with cup of tea and the football on the tranny it's allowed me to fish on in comfort when the beach has empted of other anglers and helped me put another fish or two in the bucket. The only other shelter" I would consider is the stead's beach brolly mainly because it packs away smaller than the buddy' and seems to stand up to the weather quite well.
  4. Having been out with Sam's dad and several of the other Bradwell skippers at that time such as J Rawle and K Benham, also C bond from Leigh on sea I think we were lucky in the Essex in the eighties reading some of the horror stories some of the lads have posted in the past. All of the above seemed to be keen anglers and genuinley interested in seeing as many fish caught as possible. Just to show Iam not that lucky I did once go out with owen wooley just the once though!
  5. If i thought for one minute the money from a licence would be used to improve or even better police the already exsisting rules I would pay but of course we all know no such thing would happen.
  6. Shift engineer on natural gas reception and export terminal on the Norfolk coast.
  7. Why do bother to keep these animals in prison give them to me I,ll save the tax payer a fortune.
  8. I don't care what anyone says if they think there are more bass around than there used to be must be stupid and if they think that large numbers of 12" fish is healthy they must walking around with their eyes shut. There is only one way to prevent overfishing and that is to stop fishing.
  9. These may seem like drastic measures and unfair to those who make a living from fishing but how many commercial fishermen spend a day at work then have a good chuckle in the cafe or pub about so and so from the same port breaking the rules regarding quotas etc do the rush round to report them or do they when asked about black landings and such, look away and think no harm done thats one in the eye for defra. The reason the measure are so severe is that the various government agencies involved are under no illusions that fishing industry will chunder merrily on and ignore or bend the rules until there is total collapse then and only then will any body from either side in this argument take their thumbs out of their arse and put their brains in gear, this of course will be when its all to late. As for the Mp's comments he obviously thinks he knows where his votes come from if I was an angler in that area I would vote for anybody but him. When the fishing industry completely collapses they will have no one but thereselve's to blame.
  10. Con's car at the time was rodded up RS 2000 and your dads boat was the harrier and my name is Terry. I was about 17 at the time and shortly after passed my driving test and started traveling all over the place to fish so sadly lost touch with Con who was a very nice bloke, I think at the time he was living in east end of London, and offered to bring me to Bradwell for a trips a couple of times, at the time living in Dagenham and being a keen sea angler with no transport was a pain. In later years I moved to the Southend area and used to fish from boat and shore probably with more people we both know I now live in North Norfolk although the fishing is no better or worse than Essex the thames estuary still has an atmosphere all its own that I miss from time to time Enough to drive down to the Clacton area for a days fishing every so often.
  11. Hello sam I used to go out on your dads boat along time ago I would travel up from dagenham sometimes with a bloke called Con ryan and a bloke about my age called Nicky used to skipper when your dad was not about Nicky used to talk about herring fishing, also I think you were on board one day with me and Con also a party of gas board collegues of mine we had to stay in the river i think we had some roker and flatties but the weather was horrible so we ended up playing pool in a pub in tillingham.
  12. Actually close to a 200,000 people a year are leaving this country to live abroad, that includes 20,000 per annum to France alone, I regularly work on the continent and the amount of english accents you hear in pubs and resturants in Holland, Belgium, France is amazing and these are not holiday makers they live there! and working along side prodominatly flemish/Belgian collegues in the job I do, I hear all the same comments including those about lousy fish stocks immigration, taxes, and the EU, so there in that sense there is alot in common amongst us all. I for one love England but there are faults but rest assured those faults are everywhere. That said I'll probably retire to Spain or some else hot.
