  1. Never fished the canal but stopped there in late June to have a look. It was near Sampford Peverell and it looked ideal for tench with nice lillies and little bubbles fizzing up everywhere. Stacks of stillwaters around that area, not my cup of tea but I know a couple of blokes who fish Goodiford mill and love it. It's down there somewhere, J28 I think. HB.
  2. Totally agree with all that Steve, very dissapointing after such a brilliant morning. I'd have thought the confidence and momentum from that we would have carried on. It's not as if we were having trouble with the bat and were actually doing fairly well. I can't realy see how he can take them off half way through an over, surely the light can't fade that quickly after 3 balls. I think they should only be allowed off when the opposition take a wicket after they've requested to go off. HB.

  4. I've been struggling a bit this season for tench and bream but the last few weeks I'm doing alright. The strange thing being I'm catching whilst the sun is out and it's hot. I've been doing early mornings and evening sessions but having no joy. In previous seasons I've found it nearly impossible to get bream during the day. HB. [ 10. 6. This is one I caught last Saturday and the one today was about the same, both males and around 3lbs. Could have been the same fish. I also had 2 bream on corn about 3lb each as well. Not too bad for 3 hours fishing. Isn't black pudding a bit difficult to keep on the hook? HB. [ 10. September 2005, 08:11 PM: Message edited by: Howard 13 ]
  7. Yeah I'll have to try prawns too. It's difficult trying new baits on a river swim where it's hard going at the best of times though. If you have long spells without a bite it's too tempting to switch back to baits you've caught on in the past. Very satisfying to try something new and succeed though. HB.
  8. I had a tench today on a cockle, the first time I've tried them. I know a few on here rate them so my question is what do you normally use as loosefeed/groundbait? This is on a river swim which is as good as unfished. Today I used liquidised corn but that didn't realy seem right, the only reason I used that was corn was my other hookbait. (Actually, used a bit of hemp as well.) Cheers, HB. [ 10. September 2005, 06:21 PM: Message edited by: Howard 13 ]
  9. Give it a go, you'll soon learn when you start losing. I've found the best time to play is about midnight when people come back from the pub a little worse for wear. Try not to play the Yanks or the Scandinavians as they're a bit canny. HB.
  10. I can't understand why Texas is so much more popular than 7 card stud. Surely there is more skill in 7 card? Me too! What's your username, I'll look out for you - I'm '5flush' HB.
  11. Double post - Haven't done that for a while. [ 02. September 2005, 12:31 PM: Message edited by: Howard 13 ]
  12. I got zapped by a mobile one at Crosshands, S Wales. I was doing 48 through temporary roadworks which was a 40. I sent off the form admitting I was the driver, then got the letter telling me to surrender my license and send off £60, only to get another letter 3 days later telling me no furter action is to be taken. What a waste of time and money. HB.
  13. Not so lovely if you're pole fishing on an exposed moor. I had to sit under bushes for over an hour. The bream didn't seem to mind though, had 4 in an hour after it had stopped. HB.
  14. I've never seen it before, caught it yesterday in a stretch of 'unfished' river. As long as it's nothing to worry about that's OK. HB.
  15. Give them a ring here. They've always been spot on with me. Good luck. HB.
  16. I'm from near Langport and normally fish the Parrett along with some of the drains and occasionnally the Stour at Sturminster Newton. I think it'll do me good to try out somewhere new and not sure if this makes much sense but living so close to where I fish (5 mins) can sometimes be a distraction. If the fishing's not too good and I say get a phonecall from someone, it's far too easy to pack up and do something else whereas if I've travelled an hour it makes it more of a trip/day out so I'd obviously sit it out. The only thing holding me back is not knowing the state of the river in winter as I wouldn't want too many wasted journies. I'm going to ring him later on and get a ticket I think. Never fished for barbel before so that is quite a draw on it's own. I'll let you know if I get a ticket. Ta, Howard. [ 31. August 2005, 09:55 AM: Message edited by: Howard 13 ]
  17. Have they got a decent map of their waters Glenn? I wouldn't mind fishing a few different rivers, getting a bit bored this season. Howard.
  18. I've just set up a btinternet account and can send emails but can't receive. This is the message I get... Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F Any ideas? Ta, HB.
  19. Cheers Don, It seems whenever they are rolling I don't catch. I've been feeder fishing a small bomb with either sweetcorn or lobworms for bait. Perhaps I've just been unlucky if rolling is something they do when feeding. I'll be having a good go again next Friday night. HB.
  20. Especially looking forward to the seafood. Can't wait.
  21. Going tomorrow morning, any tips on good restaurants, bars, things to do and see? Cheers, HB.
  22. That is a beauty, nice one. Nothing better than big roach. I'd personally rather catch that than a 20lb carp. HB.
