  1. Hi all, I was going through the greenpeace website on sustainable fisheries today and on their section on which fish to buy and which to avoid, they suggest only buying line caught Herring, along with line caught Lemon Sole, line caught Witch and line caught Dabs and Flounders. Am I right in thinking apart from angler caught Dabs and Flounders that there just simply isn't a line fishery for any of the above species and although herring sometimes do get caught on mini shrimp rigs, it certainly would not be a commercial option? What does anyone think?
  2. Sounds like you caught some very fine perch indeed

    The Spring Run

There was only a few over 5 but there was a lot of 3, 4 & 5 pounders, the best went 6.5lb but in the previous few days they have been coming out to about 8.5. lots of mini codling as well which is a good sign. They were coughing up Hermits, Herring, Crab and some sort of funny green worms that come up in the mud on the anchor. There was only a couple of roker caught but it was well inshore that we were fishing.

    The Spring Run

Hi Steve, Luckily there was a very small window in the weather for sunday and it was a little fresh but we were only about a mile off so we managed to get a bit of shelter from the land.

    The Spring Run

What a positive attitude! What I should have said was I had a really bad day actually catching something and I cannot wait until the blank sessions return
  7. Hi all, Did anyone make it out fishing this weekend? I have just returned from a days fishing on my old mans boat and I have to say, sport was exceptional, with most boats catching between 50 and 150 codling per boat between 2 & 7lbs! it was without doubt the most codling I have ever seen caught. There was at least 25 boat in just a few miles of sea and things got a little crowded at times! All in all a very good day!
  8. Cheers fella, for some reason my reply has ended up in non fishing chat, probably the beers influence!
  9. I amfraid so this weekend CJS2 the wind is lookin ok at the mo, I am getting reports of lots of codling, a few Skate and the odd Bass so hopefully I will be out Sunday!
  10. Guys, I am really excited now, have just bought myself a new rod(Shimano travel 270) and a shed load of plugs and storm shads, poppers and jigheads - so I say, bring on the Barramundi
  11. Cheers Kieran, Some of the fishing available elsewhere looks mind blowing! Mahoo
  12. Cheers Snatcher, that was pretty much going to be my plan anyway - a few beers and hot curries with a rod in hand, sounds just about perfect!
  13. Hi guys, Anyone been to Goa in India, and if so, do you know what's the fishing like?
  14. The crabs have started! a couple of days ago i caught one full of roe, and there was plenty pulling the rod tip! Also, it looks like the spikies are starting to show as I bought and cooked a nice specimen from mersea today for my inlaws!
  15. You must have a very small reel!
  16. All the best to you and Hazel CJS2

    Welsh tope

Hi Muttley, Just out of interest, where abouts in Anglesea are you going in June? As it just so happens that I will be there and fishing for tope at the same time. Are you going as a big party? mahoo
  18. Cheers guys, just for reference the best fishing was to be had first few hours of the ebb, but the first hour of the flood also produced. And.... the crabs are hard at work again, I actually reeled in one that had thousands of eggs attached, am I right in thinking that they only breed after they have peeled? if so then there should be some peelers about Funny though, it did look like a male, do the males look after the eggs?
  19. I went off the beach and pier at Clacton today and got one codling 2 1/2 and one about a pound, three pout and a flounder quite an enjoyable day really except for the wind blowing a hooly!
  20. Jaywick ladies!!!! All I have seen is Jaywick men, and doing things to each other that I never want to see again Me and my friend were so scared we left page 3 wide open on the dashboard just so people would get the message and keep their same sex orgy elsewhere!! Would love to get a stingray though, seen a few caught to about twenty pounds and they run like hell
  21. An interesting thread this!, I have just got some Ultima F1 and it seems like great stuff to me, although i have only used it a couple of times, sometimes you just have confidence in something you are using and I have this with the ultima. Time will tell though
  22. Hi Sharkbyte, I would agree with that! over the years I have become a reasonable judge of fish which some claim to be way off the mark and when weighed prove to be about half the given weight I must admit Sea Angler is becoming a bit boring nowadays, and I don't get the same buzz when it comes through the door anymore, although TSF does seem to feature more in this area
  23. Hi Young rod, One thing to add if you are Bass fishing is to never stray too far from your rod, so that when you do get that thumper of a bite you can strike it very quickly, I am sure that i have lost many more Bass than I have hooked by not being quick enough on the strike
  24. Hi all, got a new one of these for Xmas from my other half and so far have found it to be exceptional! any other reports from peeps who have had one a bit longer?
  25. I agree, although they are undoubtedly there, they are out of range of most of us unless you have a bloody great boat and lots of time. Still to catch a black bream in this country, although it is high on my hit list! I did have about half a dozen, although I think they were banded bream in Majorca last year on mini squid from one of the Pollensa jetties and they were very tasty on the BBQ and earned me several brownie points from the missus and allowed me to go again
