  1. Have to say Stavy if you cannot brag about an excellent fishing trip what the hells the point? Its like winning gold at the Olympics for some of those guys they have had a great experience. As for promoting the boat and the unique (cannot spell unique) trips they offer do you buy everything you see on the tele ads or paper ads or radio ads? do you?? Its all part of the mix S. and its good reading, lets us know whats going on out there whats wrong with that? Well done is what I say and thanks for sharing it with us Challenge.
  2. Trouble is Glenn I am a cod , haddock , plaice man primally.
  3. When they go to Morrisons Glenn to do the "BIG SHOP" they both wear orange boiler suits , look like they have just arrived from Guantanamo ! I better shut up now before I get onto the Nissan or it will be non-fishing chat for me.
  4. Looks like ther is a forward thinking skipper at Brid then. All I have seen over the last 10yrs or so is them landing-usually all strung up billets, whitng, dabs, mackrel, and wrasse yes seen lads landing strings full of wrasse whats that all about? They are still fishing the same ground that before the 80 s you could fillup on most days . That ground has been destroyed by trammel nets and heavy towing. On any weekend though you can see from Flambrough cliffs the cobbles all anchoured-up within casting distance of the shore. Please tell me if I am wrong but this is what i am seeing 1st hand.
  5. Thurso cannot speak for your fishing but on our grounds this type of fishing is and has proved sustainable over many years .A pair team can get this sort of shot in one haul, shag the sea-bed and throw away the same again as discard. Its a good catch and those involved should be getting a pat on the back .
  6. Sounds to me your on a bit of a downer Budgie and gone off sea angling. Some of these guys will have had the best few days fishing in thier lives Big cod , light tackle , shallow water coupled with the whole experiance of travelling halfway across the sea. What the hell do we go fishing for, its to catch fish right More Fish , Better , Bigger Fish, not "Thats a fine one for the pot me old hartys lets sail for home now skipper " Each to their own Budgie glad you expressed your views cheer up mate.
  7. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Sep 24 2006, 12:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried to reply to Clem's post but it wouldn't let me so I'll reply via this one, I hope it's OK. The catch reports in the SAN are a week old at the most when we go to print and the same reports are on my website for all to see. www.seaanglingnews.co.uk so you don't have to buy a mag and read old reports, you can get up to date reports FREE. Thanks for making that clear Norm I was thinking more about the old glossies that have been over charging for poor repetative content for years. I use the SAN website regular and the mag is prob. the best of the bunch.
  8. unless u are a veggie which i have n o probs with at all ,you are been a bit daft dissmissing the fact that these birds make very good eating.
  9. Dont know how Whitby boats are fisihing at the moment Slack but they have just had one of the best summers (and last winter) for a few yrs. Pick a good boat and you will always have an exiting day even if you do not fill-up. As for Brid., dont even bother expensive, non triers, unless you like billet bashing round head-end Those lads just have not moved with the times i am afraid .
  10. Used to eat guilemots all the time- Top Nosh. The breasts are the only bit worth bothering about they taste bit like chicken/herring/duck we used to fry them off or roast them. Had gannet too a couple of times but they take more prep due to their size but roast they are fantastic sunday lunch.
  11. Looked up Pipefish Big_cod , there are 6 species one of which is indeed the sea horse the intresting thing is they do not move far and some live in the kelp inshore and others offshore so it seems they have always been there. There must have been a population explosion in recent years then either through the reasons you mention or there is not the numbers of predators anymore as we all know.
  12. Adam:Has Big_cod gone on his 800 mile trip in THAT car? Is it true he had to have the windows wound down all the way cause of the smell??
  13. Is this non-fishig chat of the 1st degree with a pale blue suitcase? BUT ITS GOT A RED ONE!
  14. ]quote name='Stoaty' post='674013' date='Sep 24 2006, 01:53 AM'] Most accurate thing said on this thread. And I thought I was the clever one. Whoever buys the mags now? for years I just flicked through them and popped them back on the shelf. After a year its all the same stuff the only good bit was the fishing reports and the were/are 6-8 weeks out of date..Now we have sites like this up to the minute with feature writers like John E A, Macky and others giving excellant fishing reports what more do we need? Anyway maybe this should be a new thread but the point made about the mags is true, cannot see them helping sea anglers cause .
  15. Not often enough, even though live only 12 miles from the nearest bit of sea it is the travelling .traffic and pathetic parking restrictions that curtail my trips more than anything. Thatchers bloody Britain.
  16. John we got enough trouble this side as it is without you adding to our woes. Half the west coast fleet is steaming east following the news of your impending trip. The wirrel is a desert.
  17. Do not know challange why dont you ask them? Lack of crew to process half a million mops? More lucrative work? Not got quota? Gear? Conservationists? Sons of Neptune? Do not know M8 why not ask them? H.
  18. It is indeed a big shame Paul so much could be gained from the closure of this fishery I doubt they will even get a decent price for what is kept aboard. From the feedback so far on here it seems there is only us northern lads expressing outrage. What would happen if it was tiny bass slaughter time? Anyway looks like we will just have to put up with it again.
  19. During and just after periods of bad weather seal pups can sometimes be seen , often in distress along the n. Yorks coast. This is one of natures way of controlling their numbers. In pre PC days they were left to die but now they are scooped up and go to the seal hospital for rest and relaxation. When they are released back they associate man with food and become even more of a problem. They will be treated as outsiders to any seals in the area of release and may need to start colonising new areas.
  20. Think I can feel a "mini mid life crisis" coming on Lovely boat Stoaty. The only thing with owning a boat though as I am sure you know is that they EAT money more than women.
  21. There is nothing wrong with properly cooked fish and chips eaten regular especially with some peas. much better than processed food /ready meals . Salad munshers oftwen pour mayo. over their leaves which is FAT.
