  5. sorry for the late reply i was just going to get one of them "starter kits" West Midlands Angling Centre do a Pro-Performance kit for around the £50 mark. was going to look about getting one of them. Don't think i'll bother unless they're any good and recomended. as for local tuition, i'll have to lookk into that. There's a few reservoirs near me ,and a couple of trout fisheries. One must do a lesson or 2

  13. grr kids !!! last time i went on the Leeds/Liverpool canal at Burnley, a group of 3 10ish year olds was hanging about. i was snagged on something, so moved about 5metres away from my tackle to try to get it free. only turned my back for a few seconds. came to look back, and my bait was being fired at a nearby swan with my catapult, another lad was trying to net a floating chip tray with my landing net. whilst the 3rd was starting to haul my keepnet in, to see what i had caught. i wouldn't have dreamed of doing stuff like that when i was that age. next time... THEY'RE BAIT (heard there's some good sized pike are in the Canal) thank god i recently joined a club, whose venues are fenced off, and each member has a set of keys.

  20. thanks Chuby for the reply that has helped me a lot. i'm sure i'll pick it up as i go along,. i usually trot the worm on my local river (The Irwell at Rawtenstall, East Lancs), but saw someone flyfishing a short distance away catching 3-4 brownies to my 1. I'll have some of that i thought, and decided i'm going to give it a try.hee Hi Frantic i'll be on the River Irwell mostly, although a local reservoir has started doing day tickets. so i'll try that too one day. can i change the name of the Irwell into the Briny ?
  21. my mate just got a keenets match pro carp cadet 8metre take apart pole from Argos for £49-99. It's not too bad, although you'll probably get better if you shop around, Isaw on the back cover of "Anglers Mail" anadverisement for an 11metre pole from Bennetts of Sheffield (Bosfish) for about the same price. not sure what the specifications were on that model though, although there was a few extras with it like a pole roller, and a rig or two.
  22. hi fly people. i'm new to the world of fly fishing. hope to get a set up very soon. just a bit puzzled over a couple of things..... what is the purpose of backing line? how much do you need to put on a reel? is it different to normal use fishing line? fly line how much fly line do you have to put on leader how long do you have this? will normal line work,or not? thanks for any help
