  1. Apart fom emergencies should fishery owners ask for mobile phones be switched off. I was at a fishery today and the guy on the other bank, it was like I was in is office. I want to get away from work, pressures of the day by goin fishing. If you take a day off to fish LEAVE YOUR PHONE AT HOME or switch it off like I do
  2. Only use nets during a match. Sometime I think 5 hours is too long to keep fish in a net in this weather. I always take 2 nets, Actually have 3 but I never expect to keep that much. Have heard from commercial fisheries of 100lb plus kept in 1 net all day. I'm sorry they allow that they get all they deserve.only one I have fished did that. No names but I won't be going there again. Thats crap fishery management!!!! Give you a clue its in cheshire and its name is like a soap opera ( not corrie or eastenders).
  3. I know this may sound obvious but if you're fishing a match try to get to the venue, even if you just have a quick walk round, see what the locals are doing and set yourself up to do similar. There is nothing like local knowledge and theres always someone who will give you advice. If its a comercial ave a word with the guys in the shop (but beware of them selling you all the stuff they have for catching the fish). tight lines
  4. Any ideas team? I live in Blackpool and have visited all the local commercial fisheries. By the way Highfield fishery in Hambleton is fishing its bits off at the moment. I am off work next wee and am looking for somewhere a bit different. I dont mind travelling and an overnighter isn't out of the question. Any suggestions? By the way I have already got pencilled in Highfield Hambleton Browning Cudmore Maybe the River Dane at Byley Bridge but hey got 4 more days to fill.
  5. Apparentlly there have been some good catches from Ribchester. Day tickets are available from the Spar shop in the village. There is another stretch just up from there. If you are coming off the A59 (Preston - Skipton rd) when you cross the river take a right straight away and follow the private road into a farmyard. You can get day tickets there. I've never fished it but I walked the bank once and there looked to be some nice pegs (although the water will be pretty low at the moment). Other than that you can't go wrong at Carters. Tight lines
  6. Its always best to get the best quality you can. If you can't afford new ask at your tackle shop whether they have any second hand stuff. Most of the ones I use take in stuff part ex when someone upgrades their kit.
  7. Where abouts are you? Theres a great tackle shop which does repairs called Lostock Tackle Box (just outside Preston Lancs) I've heard a lot of good things said about them maybe they can help. Type Lostock Tackle into Google. Good luck
  8. 3 of us going to Ireland at the begining of September for 10 days and we need a transit van (just so we dont forget anything! What happened to tying your rod to the crossbar of your bike reel etc in a little rucksack and away I'd go for the day. Must stop buying things

    groundbait

Look out for Angling fairs in your area (like those done by Used Tackle Co). You can normally find groundbait addatives there at prices lower than tackle shops. Also if you have the space and are lucky to have a good pet supplies store in your area buy in bulk (25 kg bag of Brown Crumb about 12 quid the other week). Just remember to decant it into storage buckets if your going to keep it in the garage or the mice will get it.
  10. Same thing happened to me last sunday. Use antihistamine on them now and get a good insect repelent. Boots the chemist are doing a 3 for 2 offer on loads of insect bite stuff at the moment.
  11. Hi Steve I agree with the other posters. The best way to learn is to join a local club if you can, there will always be some-one who will be happy to pass on their advice (although I have found not absolutely all their advice in case they come up against you in a match). Having a mate that goes is also a help. With other types of coarse fishing (yes it is with an a) try it before you buy all the gear. There are some commercial fisheries which will rent you a pole for the day and a fiver spent doing that is a lot better than a couple of hundred quid and then finding it doesn't suit you. Tight Lines
  12. Bleak. I heard about someone who wone a river match with 27lb of the critters. Must ave been knackered afterwards.
  13. I can remember fishing once on the Lancaster Canal and there was a shoot going on in the fields behind and every now and again it looked like it was raining and it was actually discharged shot from the guns. I'm sure this isn't the only place this happens as shooting for a lot of wild fowl revolves around water. Sod it lets ban everything
  14. The problem is manufacturers keep on making bigger net bags and more spacious boxes which people have to fill with new shiny things!!!!!!! Mmmmmmmmm shiny things.
  15. Depends but I agree find a good pet food suppliers and buy in bulk. I was visiting a friend recently and his wife put me onto a great place. Micro, 4mm an 6mm pellets £23 quid (approx) for 25 kilo and brown crumb £11 for 25 kilo. Tightlines
  16. in my opinion the best way to catch tench is get up v v v early in the summer. Try to be set up just as its gettin light and fish corn or cater over lots of chopped worm. If there are lots of perch stick to corn. I do this with some success and the good thing is that the tench seem to turn off by 10am so you can go somewhere, or if the place is big enough concentrate on something else.
  17. There was an article a couple of weeks ago about Magiscroft in Advanced PoleFisherman. If you can find a copy it was most informative (I read it at a friends house or I would send it to you).
