Kennet & Avon Canal - Woolhampton 1500 - 1630. Mild, overcast with a stiff downstream breeze putting quite a chop on the water. 9ºC 3 Perch; 1lb 5oz and a couple of 6-8oz. 1 Pike; 2lb 12oz Quick return to yesterday's venue hoping for a bigger stripey (achieved by around 4oz!) Dropped into a different swim - one in which I saw some scattering fry as I walked back to the car yesterday evening. All fish in the first 45 mins - Pike was last caught and didn't get another bite afterwards.

River Kennet - Hambridge 0500 - 0800 Cool, misty start - though quickly warmed up. River at normal levels and carrying a surprising amount of colour - didn't think there would have been much boat traffic to colour it up. 1 Pike; 9lb 6oz, 2 Chub; 3lb 3oz & a pounder. 1 Dace. 2 Brownies one that must have been close to 2lb and a tiddler. River Kennet - Marsh Benham 0830 - 1430 Warm, bright and breezy with a couple of lumpy showers. River still higher than anticipated and carrying quite a bit of colour. 2 Pike; both 3lbers, 7 Chublets, 1½doz Roach. 1 Doz Dace, 1 Perch, 1 Gudgeon, 2 Bleak and a Trout. First trip of the season to 'my' syndicate stretch of river - both pike on ledgered meat from the weirpool - had me thinking I hooked small barbel both times!

Kennet & Avon Canal - Woolhampton 0800 - 1500 Mild, mainly overcast and breezy (too breezy!) AT around 10-11ºC all day. 1 Pike; 4lb 6oz, A doz+ Perch - nothing over 8oz, 2 Chub (small), 3 Bleak. Another fruitless hunt for big stripeys. Wind was a real PITA blowing straight downstream and making presentation really difficult!

Middle Kennet - Nr Newbury 0800 - 1700 Overcast, mild (9-10ºC) with some milky sunshine at times after a drizzly first hour. A lovely benign winter's day. River quite pacey and carrying a little colour. 14 Chub: 6 over 3lb - best 4lb 13oz. 3 Pike; All jacks - biggest just under 7lb. 7 Perch; all small, save for one goodun of 2lb 8oz. 2 Dozen Dace & Roach. 3 Brownies all around 2lb+. Cracking day's sport (as always from here). Plan was to do a bit of piking for a change (hoping to meet the monster of the weirpool from 2 seasons ago), as well a

River Kennet - Speen Moors 0715 - 1115 Overcast start then bright and sunny. 5º -> 11ºC. River at normal levels - little leaf litter or debris. 5 Perch (1lb 14oz, 1lb 12oz, 1lb 10oz, 1¼lb and one of around ¾lb), 2 Pike (10lb 14oz, 5lb 13oz), 5 Dace (a couple close to 8oz), ½doz Chublets, Roach & Gudgeon. Early morning dawn raid for some perch with Paul. Shared the same swim and Paul had a nice brace (2lb 13oz & 1lb 15oz). My 3 biggest perch came in the first ½hr, Paul's though came out in full sunshine either side of 1000! (see pic bel

River at normal winter levels - carrying some colour - more than is usual for here. 3 Chub; 5lb 7oz, 3lb 14oz, a chublet, 1 Perch 1lb 10oz, 1 Bream; 4lb 4oz, 1 Pike; 14lb 2oz, 2 doz Dace - biggest 2 - 12oz & 11oz, ½ doz Brownies - biggest 2lb. River Kennet - Speen Moors 1230 - 1600 Bright and sunny start followed by a heavy shower. AT 5-7ºC. Forgot to take WT! 1 Pike; 15lb 3oz (!!!). 4 Perch 1lb 9oz and 3 smalluns. 2 Roach. 2 Dace. 8 Gudgeon. Rather hoped that the weather would have held to what we'd had in recent days (mild and overcast). Bright sunshine and a sudden drop in temperature is not what the angler ordered and I ummed and ahhed all morning about whether or not to go. River Kennet - Nr Newbury 0730 - 1745 Cold and overcast with a raw easterly wind - though thankfully reasonably sheltered on most swims at this venue. Max temp all day was 2ºC though judging by the times the line was freezing in the rings it was close to or below freezing for all but 2 or 3 hours around midday. WT 43ºF River clear with good flow. 10 Chub; 8 over 2lb, best 3, 4lb 12oz, 4lb 6oz, 4lb 3oz. 18 Perch; all small except for one clonker of 3lb 3oz!. 3 Pike; biggest 7lb 4oz. 22 Dace; 2 worthy of the scales one at 10oz and a really nice fish of 12oz.

River 'full' with quite a bit of colour - more than I expected - and more than is usual for here. 19 Chub: All over 1lb - though biggest 'only' 3lb 13oz and 'only' 8 over 2lb! Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 1230 - 1600 Cool, with milky sunshine. AT 8ºC WT 12.1ºC 1 Pike; 5lb 6oz. 5 Roach, 2 Dace, 2 Bleak. Blank perch trip! Spent the first couple of hours fishing (and feeding) mag - hoping to attract prey fish - but the only bite I had on lobs resulted in the pike.

Kennet & Avon Canal - Woolhampton 1330 - 1700 Still mild with milky sunshine - clouding over and quite breezy. 9 Perch; 5 over 1lb - 2lb 1oz, 2lb 0oz, 1lb 13oz, 1lb 12oz, 1lb 3oz with a couple more just shy of 1lb. 1 Chub 3lb 1oz, 1 Roach; 14oz. 3 Pike - all between 2-3lb Can't get enough of a good thing at this water atm! Pike were a bit of a pain forcing me eventually to move swims - which resulted in the chub and the roach - both caught on whole lobs.

I'm not a big Facebbok user, but have recently found it neccesary to have an account after realising that quite often, much of the current stuff from many fishing-related websites (and others) is posted on there, rather than on the main website. Hello everyone. I fancy having a go at fishing the Thames around Richmond, what would my chances with artificial lures and spinners be there? What is the likelihood of catching Pike in that stretch of the Thames? Any advice on decent spots around that area, and any tips in general? Thanks ! Sebbo

I have a pontoon boat (like a float tube but with oars) which I occasionally fly fish from for trout, but am looking to catch pike from it. I have caught pike from it on other methods but am looking for like minded people to tag along with so I can get my first pike on the fly (other than those I have accidentally caught when going for trout). I live in west Fife so I am not too far from lots of the major waters. Thanks

River Kennet - Speen Moors 0630 - 1045 Bright and clear and quite chilly - 3º -> 11ºC. River at normal summer levels (ie quite low!) 9 Perch; 2lb 8oz & 8 smalluns, 2 Chub; both circa 1¼lb, 1 Pike 6lb 15oz, a dozen gudgeon & ½doz roach and dace. First trip of the autumn so had a wander around and fished 5 swims in all. Big perch first cast and the pike not long after - both to lobs. All other fish on trotted maggot.

River Kennet - Speen Moors 0830 - 1330 Cool and mainly overcast - some 'milky' sunshine at times. AT 3º -> 6ºC. WT 45ºF (7ºC). River just about up to 'normal' levels - carrying a tinge of colour. 9 Perch (in order of capture): 2lb 11oz, tiddler, 2lb 8oz, 2lb 4oz, 2lb 3oz, 2lb 9oz, 2lb 15oz, 1lb 10oz, 2lb 9oz. 1 Pike 5lb 5oz, 1 Brown Trout, 2lb, 5 gudgeon. Cracking session (nearly 20lb of perch!) after an early morning change of plan due to not reading the match bookings! Had planned to target solely chub - but thankfully put in my lobs at the last minute! Pike and the 2-11

Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0630 - 0900 Dull, overcast and mild. AT & WT 47ºF. Water quite clear. 4 Perch: (2lb 14oz, 2lb 6oz, 1lb 11oz & a tiddler), 2 Chub: 2lb 10oz & 1lb 14oz, 1 Pike 3lb. Perfect perch dawn - so somewhat surprised to find some chub taking up residence in my favourite perch swim. They were the first two fish I caught. Lost another at the net and then caught the pike so moved swims to (succesfully) find some perch! All fish on float fished lobs.

Kennet & Avon Canal - Nr Thatcham 1400 - 1615 Cold and clear. AT 7ºC -> 3ºC. WT 42ºF - canal carrying a little colour. 2 Perch - a fine brace - 3lb2oz & 2lb 9oz. 1 Pike, 8lb 6oz. A succesful dusk trip for stripeys - despite the cold bright conditions. Pike 1st cast (yet another worm caught pike) and biggest perch on the stroke of 4pm just as the light was fading fast.

Kennet & Avon Canal - nr Thatcham 1400 - 1630 Overcast, mild with and upstream breeze.AT 13ºC. WT 51ºF. Water quite clear. 5 Perch (3lb 2oz, 2lb 6oz, 2lb 5oz, 2lb 3oz, 1lb14oz) 1 Pike (4¼lb), 1 Chub (c1lb) Couldn't pass up such perfect conditions for perching! All fish on float fished lobs and all caught after 1530 - a manic last hour of daylight!

River Kennet - Newbury 0700 - 0945 Cold, overcast with a chilly easterly breeze. AT 1º -> 4ºC. WT 43ºF (down 6ºF in 5 days) .River quite low, clear with some leaf litter. 1 Pike (6lb 6oz), 4 Chub (all between ¾lb - 1¾lb), 11 Dace, 1 Grayling. Slow morning in one of my favourite trotting swims. Pike followed a couple of dace in - so 10 mins with a floating plug soon had him on the bank! All other fish on single red maggot.

River Kennet - Speen Moors 0630 - 1100 Bright sunshine after a cool and misty start. 5º -> 15ºC. River quite low. 1 Pike (5lb 14oz), 8 Chub (4lb 9oz & 7 chublets), 3 Perch (1lb12oz, 1lb 5oz and a smallun), 1½ doz roach, gudgeon and dace (mainly roach). First session of the autumn hunting for big perch - though jacks and chub seemed to be occcupying their haunts from last year. All chub and the pike on lobs, most of the chublets were in th 12oz-1lb range - which is a good sign for future stocks. All perch on trotted maggot at the tail of the weir in bright sunshine!
