Slaughter of Bass

SandTiger:

Surely your sentiments of "Four Legged Burglars” are a tad harsh? The worst they seem to do is ruin your Pheasant run and we all know they was just imported because the shooting classes needed a dumber bird that can hardly fly to shoot at?

If you had been woken in the middle of the night by the sound of one of your geese having it's head chewed off, you might think differently.

It's OK to say that they should have been shut in. That's what the police say nowadays when a strimmer is stolen from an unlocked shed!

After all the 'poor burglar' was only stealing to feed his drug habit!

If you had seen the guns last Friday only hitting 1 in 10 of the pheasants they fired at on one drive, then you might change your mind about birds that can hardly fly.

We're no getting into a class discussion but I have just had a rise to £5.50 an hour. My solicitor charges his time at £165.00 per hour.

I can't afford to be a socialist!!!

Rant over.

See you next summer Davey.

It was probably a good days fishing average of 20 bass each maybe they were all sold to a chinese take-away or fish market, but how many times did those boys go out and catch nothing and how much did they spend on fishing trips tackle and bait probably a lot more for what those fish are worth so i would say 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other.

Ok lads.

Let`s get things in perspective?

These past 3 years have seen some enormous congregations of bass in Portland race oct/nov.

Pat Carlins trip and dozens of others around that time were doubtless spread by word of mouth. Like I`ve stated previously, right weather and right tide. But with the angling press chocka block with bass pics at the moment, I don`t think we should moan about conservation issues?

If the whole Weymouth charter fleet went out with a boat full of anglers, then caught 15-20 bass per rod. It wouldn`t make a blip in a trawlers log book!! One thing I`ve never seen in the bins on Weymouth quay is discarded bass.

Jim. We`ll have to disagree on the merits of anglers selling their catch. On foxes also. We`ve got foxes in our back garden. They`re beauties? But, then again we don`t keep fowl.

Friday night in the Sailors?

Friday night in the Sailors? Paul.

You bet, but I'm going to be like zombie. There's no more holidays allowed for December, so I have to work Thursday night then out all day Friday and then work a 12 hour shift Friday night.

I'm having 2 nights a week off for the rest of the month and work Sunday afternoon/evening instead. Pulpit rock, here I come.

That`s settled then. Friday night in the Sailors.

At least that will be 5 posters in the Sailors on Friday night. It could have been a dozen but no-one else wanted to come on the trip.

Just wait until you see the pics?

Paul.

Funny that no one has mentioned this, but the faces staring out of the pics seem to include those of 'Sreaming Reels' Nick Fisher (whom I've taken mullet fishing in the past, and the author of the article) and Hugh Fearnley Whitingstall of channel 4's River Cottage programme.

Perhaps we'll see the catch being caught on TV sometime?

Nick Fisher has also done some shooting locally. It probably was him.

I probably won't see Pat until Monday or I might have invited him to the Friday night gathering.

I have met Nick Fisher, he is a really nice bloke and a good fisherman, we fished at Grafham together and I have shot with him on the Fulford shoot in Devon.

But being a nice bloke does not excuse this, in my opinion - I like to eat fish and do take some of my catch home, but where I would put all of them Bass is beyond me!
