Get Okumas, then you can just throw them away and get some more :D

Anthony 78.

Have you got tackle insurance or a good home contents insurance with accidental cover on it my insurance also covers my tackle. If so try claiming accidental damage.ive just claimed for new a Shimano Technium Specialist rod for accidental damage. When i took out of holdall Quiver top joint was broken Got a new rod within 2 days.

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody for the help in sorting my reel problem. I have sorted it now. Decided to do the WD40 thing and blast the whole lot out. Left it overnight and reapplied some teflon grease this morning and it is running like new.

Thanks again

Funnily enough I actually got a chance to see why the clutch and the baitrunner were silent on this reel when it clicked on my other one. On closer inspection I noticed that there was a spring missing. I checked to see if it had fallen off but it was nowhere to be found so they obviously forgot to put it in at the factory.

I have to admit that I was not to inpressed with the guy that I spoke to at shimano as I had told him about the silent clutch/baitrunner and he said that there was probably a spring missing but did not offer to send me a replacement and didnt even give me any suggestions to help me out of the sand problem, just saying that there was nothing that could be done.

Oh well its sorted now so im happy again.

Even when you're used to stripping down reels, the occasional one comes along that has you scratchng your head. Long time ago Shimano had a lad called Jonathan in their repairs department in Wales who could fix anything with his eyes closed. He also had a wicked sense of humour.

I sent the separate parts for a Shimano Speedmaster back to him in a cardboard box with a note asking if he could put the parts back together and a promise that never again would I tinker with reels. Three days later the reel arrived back in one piece, cleaned and serviced (and gratis) It had a small note from Jonathan enclosing a small spring and telling me that the spring didnt belong to the reel. I spent a week checking every other reel and trying to figure out where I'd lost the spring from.

Then it dawned on me. The reel had arrived back on 1st April.

aha! so thats where it went :D

I was very reluctant to start stripping it down. Im usually very good with my hands but this looked to complicated for me. I think that if the WD40 didnt work I would have probably sent it away for service and rebuild.

Last year after servicing 6 shimanos one of them made a funny clicking noise but only when anti reverse was on.

It took me an hour of taking them all apart to see why that reel was playing up.

In the end I noticed a tiny spring had popped out of a plastic bit (technical hey) up near the rotar where the anti reverse engages.

I put it back in but it still made the noise so took it apart as well as an almost identical reel.

The spring was not as tight as on the working reel so I bent it back a bit.

Now works like clockwork.

Jeepster sold me a 5000gtm baitrunner for 35 quid inc postage and line.

After buying it I remembered that a while back I posted a thread on keeping tackle clean and how I clean it every time I use it.

Jeepster was of the opposite view and posted that he just chucks his in the shed.

It took me two hours to clean and service the thing!!! :D:D:D:D (well I am a bit of a tart when it comes to clean tackle) .

Even used a permanent marker to cover some scrathces  then gave a polish with wd40.

Now it looks brand spanker (it worked fine but I am finicky).

Just need to catch something with it now.
