Big Ledger Weights

Eddie:

"Capta" leads are what they were called if memory serves as it should.

They were fairly common a few years ago and in theory "planed" onto the bottom like a reverse aerofoil. Problem was when they were hauled up they didn't stop planing and did underwatar aerobatics (or is that aquabatics) and would do nice knitting jobs around the other lines you or your mates might have over the back of the boat. Before I had my own boat I fished regularly from "Charlotte Newman" outof Littlehampton and the skipper banned them for that very reason.

Hi Jim

I have not seen a lead weight that you have described, but would it it look something like this.

You could attach a swivel/link to the loop coming out the top of the pyramid

That's exactly as I remember them. Surely I'm not that much older than anybody else on here that nobody knows what I'm talking about.

As I don't go out in boats any more, this was merely an idea for people who do, to save having to use sash weights.

The loops in the wrong place, did'nt it used to be about half way down the top edge?

Alive without breath,

As cold as death;

Never thirsty, ever drinking,

All in mail never clinking.

I`ll just get me rod!!!

There, somebody else is old enough to remember!

Now all we want is for some old codger to fine one in their kit bag.

The connector down one side (steep side?) sounds like it might make it work better.

gonefishing:

imo it should therefore be the far left loop on the image bottom left or 9 o clock on the one above.

From an aerodynamic point of view, I would agree.

The shallow slope on the downtide side would tend to lift it, just like lee-loads on a roof.

40 years makes things a bit hazy.

I am assuming these are designed to hold bottom in an anchored situation, Not Drifting.

As tide and current can be slow or very fast what weights should these start and finish at: -

e.g. 3oz to 1lb
