I've never caught a gudgeon or even saw one in person. I've only seen a picture of them just once and they are about the size of a creek chub in the rivers I fish in Ohio and those fish are some little eating machines also.

Gudgeon are a rarety in my parts, i remember catching them as a kid but not any more.

The UK record is only 5oz because the really big ones have always evaded capture, being somewhat brighter than carp or even pike!

Fairly close except with out the barbles when I catch a creek chub this spirn or summer I'll take a picture and once I figure out how to post a picture I'll post it, Newt, I haven't tried to do it yet. I'll try sometime in the future.

I caught some gudgeon this evening on a local lake and was struck buy how hard they fight for thier size which got me wondering if they grew to 20 pounds we wouldn't fish for anything else.

Do they ever come in singles?

In the spring the fish have "horns" on their heads and their bodies get this reddish tint to them. They are really beautiful fish when their in their spawning colors.
