Prebaiting, good idea??

I plan to fish on my local River Trent in July for Barbel on a stretch that is noted for a lot being there. There is also a lot of Bream and Carp in this stretch and was wondering what you all thought of prebaiting. I was thinking of arriving early in the morning of the night I will be night fishing and prebaiting for the Barbel and the Bream if the Barbel doesn't work out.

If you think this would be a good idea what bait would you suggest I do this with, preferably cheap bait as I don't want to be spending the earth doing this?

Advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for any help received.

Prebaitings always a good way of getting some instant success, although been on the Trent make sure the bait goes in your swim not 2 pegs downstream

Cheap options for baiting has to be Hemp maybee some corn too.

Costs a bit more you could try halibut pellets for both bream and barbel

i fish the trent for barbel often, and i've never bothered prebaiting, knowing where the fish are is much more important.

not doing it at all is the cheapest way!

if you really want to do it, get a big bag of trout or halibut pellets, the bigger the bag, the cheaper they get, and they'll last a while too. Or as netfull says, hemp is a good one, boil it up yourself, leave it in the bath to soak. You won't get much cheaper than hemp, but if cost is such an issue, I really would say don't bother, spend your money on hook bait and a bit of hemp for ground bait.

Thanks Jeepster how much would you suggest to prebait with?

I was thinking of Brown crumb mixed with Leam or lean to bind it solid as the place I am fishing has a fast current for the Bream and Hemp, corn and some pellets for the Barbel but how much in quantity?

Probably not a good idea to prebait with solid balls of groundbait because if the current is as strong as you say it is then they will probably just keep rolling with the current and be miles away when it breaks down. I think hemp has to be your best bet.
