Fly Line Dressing (the stuff to keep older floating lines floating) will stop ice formation on the rings if you apply a light coating before starting to fish and add a dab now and again during the session.

 

We have the same problem with ice though. Never thick enough here to walk on but plenty thick on occasion to make your rig bounce and those nasty jagged edges if you break a hole and then have to cast to it.

Just trolling through the forumm chaps and canny pi--ed! Coldest I have been bout 20 years ago fished Tynemouth pier - illegal by the way,had to climb over the railings. Cast out 2am cold as f-ck. line iced on the reel,eyes froze up,I am prone to keens and the hands started to bleed for no reason ands the worms snapped like chips while trying to bait up now that was cold!
