leaping chub

I had a 2.5lb Chub today come flying out of the water immediateley after hooking it. I have never come across a flying Chub before, have you?

Yes! Many years ago on the Gt. Ouse, fishing cheese paste under some overhanging trees, had a humdinger of a bite and the rod went round as I pulled into it, then it came clear of the water and through the overhanging branches and broke me. Good fish as well.

I had a big (10oz) dace leap a good 2-3 foot on the Itchen last week. I really thought it was a trout or grayling and was VERY surprised to slip the net under a peach of a dace (my 1st, ever from the Itchen)

I've experienced this with most species if hooked in shallow water.I can certainly recall chub, barbel and carp doing it.

when im fishing a prolific chub water i always keep my net well proud of the water they're buggers for jumping out of the net which is ok when pleasure fishing but in a match damned annoying :mad: :mad:
