Which species, what bait and what tactics for June 16?

Different fish are best fished for in different times of the year. And certain baits and techniques work best.

This of course depends on weather conditions matching the season.

But, tench are a popular species in spring.

In the depths of winter, when the water is at its coldest, the chub may be the only fish feeding.

With the river season now only a few weeks away, my thoughts turn to what to fish for, which baits, and which techniques.

I’m a died in the wool long trotter, using either an Avon float or stick float, with undoubtedly a couple of maggots on a size 18 hook in a search for roach, chub and dace. Very one dimensional I admit.

What plans do you all have for June 16 assuming you are going down to a river, what fish will you be targeting, and what tactics and bait will you use?

I will be targeting the double figure barbel that avoided my hookbait last year,,the ones that took my friends(first time coarse fishing ever)bait...tactics will be heavy leads,to cope with current,long(4ft)flouro hooklinks, strong hooks(size 12-14 drennan specialist barbel)halibut pellets, spicey fishmeal boilies as hookbait and hemp, hali pellets as loose feed.
