Anyone here collect Roman coins?

I needed something new to do, so have bought about 2,500 and a load of equipment to clean and identify them. Quite looking forward to it :)

Interesting. I used to collect coins and still have a collection in the safe. How did you obtain 2,500 Roman coins?
I bought them.

There are a number of 'bulk' dealers about.

Elton,I had a look at Roman coins on Ebay, they seem to be selling for a couple of quid a piece. :D:D Think I may get my metal detector out, as I live in the shadow of the Antonine Wall.... :D

I was at a car boot a few weeks ago, and there is a metal detectorist from Falkirk there who sells his finds ....I bought a 3lb lead cannonball from him, he said he found it near the site of the 2nd?? Battle of Falkirk ...Wallacetown to be exact....I use it as a paperweight now..... :D:D

bronze roman are worthless ,cleaning them makes them less than worthless :(

huge bronze hoards have been found country wide and unless its a very rare coin the pots their found in has more value,as with all coins its the patina that distinguishes the good from bad ,removing it gives you shiny worthless bits of copper or bronze.

never clean silver coins and keep them away from fingers.

roman bronze also suffers from a condition called bronze disease where they gradually disintigrate on being exposed to air ,covering them in varnish slows the process but cannot halt it
