this really riles me to ,"designer glasses" WHAT  ofcourse they were designed ...in the 1880`s when the pinze nez (sp?) lost favour to glasses with arms on the ears

there is NO difference to the wearer who DESIGNED them as the wearer cannot see the frames only the image of a little name on the side  seen by others ,do the designers design the lenses  no your eyes do ,that the frames are irrelevant doesent seem to enter the matter only paying for something you cant see does

"styles" are ok as different "styles" look different on different people but you dont need a designer only a mirror ,"styles" have always existed whether large or small or thin or thick frames ,designer ...poo theve not changed since their inception :D

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

I initially used to make my own tackle because you just couldnt buy what you wanted! Carp sacks, platforms, catfish landing nets just to name a few. These days I seem to have to make tackle for two different reasons, the shop brought version doesnt work properly or is of poor quality! When I was younger making readily available items such as floats was done purely for the fun it also gave me more of an understanding of how items of tackle worked and what matiriels were best.Tying muy own flies brought me two types of pleasure firstly the creative arty farty type thing and secondly the actual catching of fish on flies you had tied! The trout apear to be less fussy about apearence than the tyer!Sadly poor eyesight limits my tying to just the one or two patterns I cant buy.

For years I made my own rods but once again due to the eyes I now farm this out to.I would be supprised if many still make any thing in this modern instant world. :(

Over the years the only things I havnt made have been line and hooks! allthough after saying that I have spliced fly lines to give me the right weight and taper and modified hooks!

I used to write a regular feature for Graham Marsdens Fishing Magic site entitled The Tackle Workshop.A well known angling publisher contacted me to see wether I would be interested in putting together a book along the same lines.I said I would give it some thought (not to good with putting stuff down onb paper) and looked into the possible content.I was later contacted by the guy and told even though he had initially liked the idea research had shown there not to be a viable market. As a lad there were loads of books on this subject so obviously times have changed.Maybe there isnt a need for DIY tackle in this modern age?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I do enjoy making floats. Never walk or row past a swan quill that doesn't get picked up and assessed for potential. I have scores of homemade floats that will probably never get used, atleast not by me! Most springtimes and I go to one or two carboot sales, quality handmade floats, 10p to kids, buy one get one free to poor kids, 50p to adults, £1.00 to rich adults!

Easy Ben! Cut the handle off for starters. Round the edge where the handle was with a file. Drill small holes near the edge at each end. Paint the inside white undercoat and florescent pink top coat. Car paint from Halfords is good. Pink seems to work better than red. Split ring through both ends. Swivel onto the more pointy end, and treble hook on the other. Pop 330mm (approx) of 25lb wire trace between swivel and line, minimum 12 lbs breaking strain. Mono is great but run it through your fingers to feel for nicks and rough bits, cut the end off when it feels damaged. Lob your new lure out towards a reed bed, wind in slowly but keep giving the rod tip little jerks. Beyond that go to http://www.pacgb.com and follow all the links to pike handling and conservation! Good luck!
