I hope it's OK to put it on here rather than PM.

 

Let the digits be x and y.

 

Then the number is 10x + y

 

So the sum comes to (10x + y) -x -y = 9x

 

So every ninth number is given the same symbol.

Ok Tench in laymans terms it is all based on the 9 x table and all of the symbols are the same.No matter what numbers you chose you will finish up on a multiple of 9. If you have another go all the symbols will have shifted but you will find that all multiples of 9 will have the same symbol again and this is what the baby will chose next. It initially did "spook"me I must admit!
