it's not a reality show though, so don't let that stop you enjoying it!

although i hate to contradict you peter, he would de perfectly well without his TV / book revenue, he's from a frightfully well off family!

"he's from a frightfully well off family!"

That figures, but if he didn't and all of the rest of his earnings he would not have a hope in hells chance of surviving, most small farmers have second jobs or the spouse does.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

Peter Waller:

I enjoy it too, but the reality is not good. Without TV and book fees he'd never survive, so its not quite as idealistic as it appears :D !

He isn't a full time farmer surviving off his land, financially, and is the first person to admit that.

It's great TV, and I think it gives you alot to think about, we for one (as a family) have been seriously considering a move from Surrey to Wiltshire or Dorset purely from watching 'A cook on the Wild Side' and the 'River Cottage' series.

I really want to grow veggies, but our garden is barely big enough for a washing line, a few pots of herbs, a tiny shed and a nine year old to kick a ball (which generally ends up with the washing getting dirty and the herbs getting knocked over ).

Trouble is, if everyone moves to the country then it ceases to be country! Just a thought.

Having got an acre of countryside, without a carrot or a potato in sight, I often wonder where folk find the time for gardening, heavens, it would cut into my yachting and fishing time!!
