Anybody ever brought off duty stuff back from your holiday before?

Hey Emz, where are you going in France?

We got back a couple of weeks ago from a 17 day break in Brittany, which, after several holidays in France, I'm coming to the conclusion Brittany is my favourite region

Anyhow, as the for ciggies, my missus smokes & she has commented over the last couple of years that they're no longer that cheap. I think the price has crept up since the intro of the Euro (take note for when we get it!) We don't, however, go out of our way to look for cheap cigs. You can't buy cigs just anywhere in France, they tend to be sold only in their TABACS (anyone know why that is)? There's no buying them in the supermarkets or newsagents etc, although I've not checked out these booze cruise supermarkets around Calais.

Now if it's booze you're after, a bottle of beer will cost you about 25 pence in a supermarket, the same bottle would probably cost you about 2 quid in a restaurant or bar, it's weird. Vino starts at less than a pound a bottle, but you're probably better aiming higher to get something more palatable.

Hope you have a great time!

Erm, going to Paris.

Hmmm I'm quite shocked I expected that just over the counter at Newsagents and that it would be cheap but it does seem that the Euro has effected it (it certainly has in Ireland  )

Not really looking to buy a load of booze cheap, it was just the fags. Thinking of buying maybe a bottle or two for the hotel at night (saved getting ripped off in the posh pub) but I can imagine that'll be quite cheap to get hold of in the supermarkets etc.

Belgum used to be the place for cheap ciggys but if you 'knew' some one coming from Luxemburg then they were even cheaper.

Trouble is trying to explain to the customs how you got to Luxy and back on a day return ferry ticket.

We had £1500 of ciggys n baccy confiscated. :(

If you can get Joop cheap while you are in Paris I'll have some off ya. :):):)

There are "booze cruises" from Dover, used to be a quid return. You never even leave the terminal at Calais, just load up a trolly and it is off loaded for you back in Dover, you then just have to wheel it to your van/car.

Being able to prove that it is for your own consumption helps ie birthday invites etc.

If you are driving to Paris there are a couple of warehouses just outside Calais that specialise in bulk sales of booze and fags.

Here in Holland 25 fags will cost you on average €4.80.

I have found that buying in bulk is a false economy at the end of the day, the more fags you have laying around the more you seem to smoke. If Mum just has one packet to last until she HAS to go to the shops for more the longer that packet will last her.

No lectures from me about Cancer and other smoking related medical problems, she knows the risks
