Pole Top Kits

Put here as no pole section.

I had a Maver about 4-5 years ago and found it hardwork to get kits for except originals but being a meany I wouldn't pay those prices and as it was also heavy i got rid.

Now with prices on the decline I thought I would try pole-ing [is that a word] again, and recently won a Ron Thompson [am amazed at how much lighter this feels even at full length] of the old e-baggage site.

Again I'm looking for top kits at a reasonable price but looking around they all seem to be cupping kits that are available, would like match 2's or power tops, any ideas or suggestions appreciated. Tried e-bay and the usual major online tackle tart suppliers.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Ps - Elton how about a dedicated pole section, am sure theres a few users on here.

If you cant get a specific top three why not get one of the universal kits? some times these fit as they are or at others you need to trim them back to fit. Usually a lot cheaper be they from FleaBay or a tackle shop than the manufacturers spare part.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

My pole came with two top kits and I decided I wanted a third to be strung with lighter elastics for silver fish.

On the advice of the tackle shop I strung a universal with the lighter elastic because the supplied top kits are generally stronger. Over the weekend I had the need for the lighter elastic so used the universal. It made the pole heavier and made it feel very floppy even at 9m.

At £30 for a universal set I'm pretty sure the extra few quid for an original would be worth the money.

I certainly wouldnt have paid that much for a top three! They do seem to vary in quality but I supose it also depends on what pole you are trying to match them to. Ive had no problems with the ones Ive got from Fleabay.

My point exactly Budgie prices range from 9.99 to 24.99 for universal to ????? well the skys the limit.

Have contacted a couple of sellers asking the diameter of the kit base with not one reply, i require 15mm on a top 2 and 24mm on a top 3.

Also to me the idea of shortening to make fit shortens the wall length and so will affect strength ? and to my further thinking does this not affect the taper that the pole is supposed to operate at.

Although ebay may be cheaper it appears some people dont want to make a sale

Doesnt affect strength and any difference in action is negligable.

Some Ebay sellers make me laugh it wouldnt take two minutes to measure and let you know would it?

Another option is to take the relevant section to your tackle shop and try the third section of any poles currently in stock to see if they fit and get one of those. All LEEDA stockists (they used to do Garbolino and MAP poles as well as there "own") will be able to order spare sections from the trade catalogue there and then.Prices will obviously vary but worth looking.

I've had a couple of universal match top 3s from fleabay and with a little fettling they work fine on my Maver Ascension
