I would ban buzzers, multi rod setups, beds and bivvy's but still have carp in with the rest of the normal mentioned silvers etc. Mates would have to concentrate whilst fishing for the big un.

With regards to stocks, most seem to be dreaming of developing from new, where the "estate" I would blow my winnings on would all ready have a developed lake already stocked.

I just noticed your user name. Your not my daddy are you? :D

What would I ban?

1. Radios

2. People lifting fish of 2-3 Ib out without a landing net

3. Anglers screaming and swearing to each other

4. Fishing without a disgorger

5. Throwing fish back into the water

I fished a small day ticket lake on holiday last week and saw all of the above, plus two adult anglers getting into a full blown punch up over some missing bait.

Please someone tell me it isn't always like that in Lincs

Has anyone mentioned "no carp" yet? B)

In all truth though, I wouldn't at all mind having some chunky commons around. An 8lb fully-scaled carp can be a very pretty fish.

Also plenty of predators to 'keep things honest'. I like eels (apart from when they crawl up my arm) but they'd move in if they saw fit/were able, so that looks after itself.

No exotic species. Catfish, sturgeon etc are right out.

Visitors will be scanned for electrical devices and electrocuted if carrying.

Frying sausages and bacon on a camping stove will be mandatory.

since we are talking fantasy here, in an ideal world i'd find a suitable place to dam a stream therefore flooding a valley to the desired level, i think 5 or 6 acres seems to be the general concensus. probably as natural a way as possible to 'create' a new water.

then bugger off and leave it for 20 years or so, then go back and see what nature has produced! no artificial stocking, no fishing all that time.

personally i'd be fascinated to see how it progressed. dunno if 20 years is realistic but as i said its just fantasy.

imagine fishing for fish that genuinely had never seen a hook or an anglers bait, never knowing what might bite next?

bliss!

Yes the "unknown" the lack of which is the biggest failling of any new water youve stocked yourself! A must have ingredient in my fishing.I dont want to know that monsters are present but certainl;y dont want to know they are not either!

20 would be more than enough if you get the water quality, location and size right Gav.Bewl Water (as just one example) was producing some massive fish after it only having been flooded for 8 years.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Mystery monsters would be a must for me, stuff legends are made of. Only a small number and I wouldn't want anyone to know what species they were. I haven't quite thought through how I'd achieve it without leaving the lake to mature for sveral years.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Another of the great fishery management issues!

Ideally you would take on a well established water, preferably not fished for some time but with huge potential! Thats the only safe way to do it.Some risk a "mystery package" from a fish supplier but you never know if your not getting ripped off big style! after all true monsters cost serious dough and are much sought after.

The leaving it to mature thing is the real problem if you are a fishery manager as its very difficult to get todays anglers to pay now fish later! As Steve Burke!

However in our ideal "fantasy" situation we could do justy that......well providing we are not to old!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Alright? I'm a newbie, so feel free to slate and mock me!!

My display name is also very sad, but yet true!!

But anyway back to the topic, I'd have a separate predator pool to the main lake, comprising of Pike, Zander, Catfish, Eels and Perch. (Note: I'd also have Perch in the main lake)

Another Idea is I'd allow boats with certain restrictions, but I'd have a large central island (with a cafe, toilets, essential tackle shop and lake viewing areas) where boats could dock, if they need a ****/**** or a BACON sandwich. Obviously, I know that will be a very controversial idea, but I've experienced being out on a boat at Bury Hill, Dorking, Surrey, and when you're not prepared, and you really need a cuppa, a slash and a bit of grub, it's a right bastard to row all the way back, to the kiosk/reception!! I'd make a rule, that boats have to be booked a week in advance and only 5 boats would be allowed out on the lake at the same time. The boats will be fairly large, and have a maximum of four rods, and a minimum of two (per boat.) No more and no less than 2 people will occupy one boat at a time. Furthermore, boats will not be able to be within 200 yards of bank swims. A large number of islands and features will be easily accessible to the boats, so they wouldnt want to be near swims anyway, the attraction of the boat is to be able to get to areas where you couldnt from the bank.

I would remove wooden 'pegs' and have openings instead, as I'd want to give the lake and environment a natural and free-spirit look and not confine anglers. However, despite this, poaching or creeping into other anglers swims wouldnt be allowed.

I would have islands that anglers fishing from the bank could access and small patches of lillies, that will be monitored to make sure they're not growing out of control. These features are for the benefit of the fish and the anglers.

I'd have a wide range of stock, from Carp, Grass Carp, Tench, Bream, Barbel, Chub, Roach, Rudd, Perch, Crucians and Bleak. I would stock the lake every 5 years. Keep the plant growth of the lake in trim, but i wouldn't make it look like a completely dead canvas.

I'd have a large restaurant near the entrance, with a vast car park and a complete tackle shop/Angling Centre.

The lake would be a 'day-ticket' and I'd charge £15 for adults (18+) with a maximum of 3 rods. £10 for 12+. (2 rods max) £10 for O.A.P.(3 rods max) £8 for under 12 (1 rod only). And a charge of £5 for non-fishing visitors. Under 6's go free.

Daily checks would be made around the swim, to make sure anglers were complying with rules.

The Lake would be open from 5am-9pm Bank Holidays/Weekends and open from 6am-8pm on Weekdays.

Nightfishing would be restricted to a different area of the lake to day fishing, and would cost £5 more than normal day ticket pricing. It would be from 6pm-10pm the next day.

No night fishing on the boat.

The lake would hold no official matches whatsoever!!

The predator pool would have the same pricing. And night fishing would also be allowed. No transferring of predators to main lake!! Correct predator gear would be needed. Boat fishing allowed-only three boats on the lake at one time. Apart from this same boat and bank rules. No keepnets, but pike sacs allowed.

Keepnets and Carp sacs would be allowed on the main lake, as long as they were used safely and correctly. No single fish over 10lb would be allowed in a keepnet. Landing Mats and Nets must be used. Barbless Hooks only. Surface baits would be allowed, as well as nuts/particles.

Swimming into the lake to try to catch a fish that's been snagged is commended, as long as it's not intruding on someone elses swim. Same for trying to rescue equipment (But the fishery wouldn't accept swimming across the entire lake to save your spod rocket caught on an island) Don't make a habit of losing equipment in the lake!! No bathing or general swimming.

Wading allowed on slope swims only. The fishery will monitor the lakes throughout the day and will clean up litter and discarded tackle around the grounds. If you've lost equipment (on islands, snags,) you are allowed to ask the fishery to put your name down of lost belongings and the fishery will do it's best to return them to you on another day. (i.e. you've lost an entire rig on a snag 100 yards from the bank!)

All common sense stuff!!

Personal Bests will be placed into the hall of fam and the angler will be rewarded.

I went on a bit there!!

;)
