Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.

Went out tonight and lost all nerves, for whatever reason i found some confidence and was handling edinburgh city centre in traffic with ease :D

I took 2 lesons a week and had a wait of about 4 months to get a date for my test, passed first time, also passed my advanced first time.

Emz, I haven't forgotten what we spoke about, still looking for the info for you.

Shaun, Keep going mate, I would think about looking for another instructor.

Talking about fatals, I'm not long in from photographing one and was stood down on another one tonight. I should do an exhibition of them, might help to stop folk doing silly things.

I've been to Scrabster... and I want to go back!!!

I took both my sons to an old airfield before they were 17, on the advice of a driving instructor we borrowed some traffic cones to make a course, representing parked cars, corners etc.

I got them to do six starts and stops without stalling then I got out of the car and just gave instructions and watched. if they stalled on the 6th then it was start again. After they were on their own the confidence levels increased quickly.

mistakes caused embarrassment but not damage. (you can't damage a cone at low speed. Eldest son was booked in for a weeks intensive course just after his 17th birthday started on the Monday, took his test on the Friday and had his licence 4 weeks after his birthday. Between his birthday and the course he had probably driven 300 miles on the road with me. My younger son took his test at the time the theory tests were introduced and we were unable to get him on an intensive course during school holidays. In the end the cost of lessons was similar but just took longer.

The 'off road' lessons taught them car control with no distractions or danger from other vehicles or to other people.

The saying used to be ' An instructor will teach you how to pass a test, you learn to drive when you are on your own with no one next to you to give advice'

Basically, the more practice you get, the easier it becomes.
