Marker Float Set Up

Some use a cheap rod for marker float or spod work, but if this can't cast as far as the rods you're fishing with then you're not fishing to your full potential.

It doesn't matter if spod and marker rods aren't good at playing fish, it's getting the distance that's important.

It might therefore be worth looking at an inexpensive light sea rod as these are often better casters than carp rods.

Sea rods (beachcasters) are usually brutes, due to the harsher casting actions employed and the far bigger weights required. You might find a decent bass fishing sea rod since they are meant for lighter leads, but generally they're not brilliant casters - unless you pay the bucks.

Do your Emblems have the baitrunner conversion, or do you have to fiddle with the front drag every two seconds?

Sorry for the late reply!

I don't have a baitrunner conversion, but that doesn't matter because I very rarely use them for actual fishing. For spodding and marker float work I just screw the drag tight and leave it.

On the rare occasions I do use them for fishing (they're not great fishing rods - they're designed to cast a long way, so not very nice for playing fish. I bought them for catfishing really) I loosen the drag and then have to fiddle with it when/if I get a run.

At Wingham I didn't have to fiddle with them once...
