CAN SWEETCORN CATCH FISH IN THIS WINTER WEATHER

Is sweetcorn still a exellent bait in this weather?

What, in this extremely mild weather do you mean? ;)

Corn seems to work all year round on some waters and not at all (at any time) on others. Some carp anglers do well in the coldest of conditions by popping up a single piece of fake plastic sweetcorn, so make of that what you will...

I'm ashamed to admit that my PB perch of 2lb 12oz came to exactly that method last March during quite chilly weather, so it's not just attractive to carp, roach, bream, tench and chub.

So I think the short answer is, "If corn catches on your water in the summer, it will likely still do so in the winter".

Sounds like good advice and if you are in doubt add a worm or maggot and fish your corn cocktail style.

Yep, I'd agree with that as well.

Ive fished corn quite a bit for chub on the tip in winter and Ive had a good few surprise barbel when i thought it was to cold for them to feed on it. I think the low fat content makes it a good cold weather bait, but you need to feed lightly as it will fill them up.

I also agree

Sweetcorn can be a cracking winter chub bait on the day. In My experience i have found it good when the river is running a little clearer than you would like it to be. Possible the visual factor More than its smell.

In sumer i fished sweetcorn in the margins with good results, will it have the same results and if not what will as i realy ant to fish the margins again. I have heard spicy flavors are good in winter so should i make a curry sauce to poor on the corn.

Is corn the best bait for the margins in this weaher.

Just to let you know i am fishing Tunnel Barn Farm, Shrewly.

And the main species i carp.

Nowt wrong with corn. I wouldn't be without it but the margins might not be the place to putting baits now that it's getting colder. You can try but I'd aim for the bottom, somewhere a wee tad deeper.

Its a top bait for trotting for grayling with that also attracts Chub and many other species and is very cheap you can also freeze what you don't use.

As has been said before dont feed heavily with it or all you will wind up with is a river full of glassy eyed belching grateful fish that have no intention of taking your bait

Sweetcorn is probably the top bait when the water is clear, but feed very sparingly, if at all, feed a low nutrition bait, for some reason it quite often works over low oil pellets.

You may be hard pushed to catch in the margins though, the fish tend to shoal up and avoid the margins, but like all fishing, not all the time.
