First, what makes you think "boilies" will catch the most carp. Bad assumption!

 

What will catch the most carp is the bait you have in the water. The bait you have on the bank usually does rather poorly. That is why you say fishmeal (protein) in the summer and "fruity" (alcohols) in the winter. Cause that's what "everyone" said to use and used. Actually, from the carp's perspective, protein baits year around are favored. It's just that in the winter, in water below 50F, carp really don't care. If anything, as water temperatures drop protein requirements are instinctively recognized and become more effective. That is until the usefulness of feeding ends.

 

Using "boilies" is simply a style or method of carp fishing. They have an advantage in some situations (i.e. long sessions or vs. certain nuisance creatures). They also can be cast "a mile". Some guys like that and frankly, some fish are a mile away. Not so much are they, the carp, a mile away in the US however. Boilies and long rods with reels holding 300 yards of line are called "Euro" fishing. Not carp fishing.
