Well I was a bit fed up to be working on such a lovely day, my river tackle was still in the van and there's a pond where I'm working.........

A few brown Goldfish, a couple of small Mirrors (3lbish) and then this thing.

was it a Golden Orfe or some kind of goldfish? How do you tell?

Whatever it was it brightened the day up and went 4lb 9oz on the scales. :)

Yes, it's a golden orfe.

Believe it or not but a 3-14-8 example looking very much like this caught in about 1974 was thought t be a new record roach despite its 'pink' colouration.

2. How do you tell?

1. Golden Orfe

2. Short dorsal fin (goldfish have a long one like carp) and lots of quite small scales

Nice fish - you now hold the family record :1a:

Cracking fish, that would have certainly brightened up my day if I had hooked it.

Orfe and Ide look just like rudd and roach! Goldfish look like little crucians or little common carp.

Yes that's what i thought, but this one seemed to hump up behind the head more like a bream in shape really. Can you get Golden Bream?

May be I just need to catch more 4lb+ rudd and roach? :)
