Have you seen any kingfishers or herons?

seen 1 pair on the river almond in the calderwood country park near mid calder this morning and 1 pair on the linhouse burn which runs in to the almond

spotted the two alternating resident herons and one king fisher.

as you know kingfishers nest in banks so i expect they guard last years burrow (or the bank itself) about now to make sure they keep it so you see little of them until the young fledglings are introduced further afield as the visit they pond (no banks on it suitable for a nest) as a family group then on until the late autumn when they disappear again.

as for common birds getting scarcer note how many raptors are getting commoner ;)

Just goes to show how common the "common" birds are without noticing!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

I've just seen this rather worrying article, has anyone noticed any drop in heron or kingfisher numbers?

 

I can't remember seeing either so far this year....
