How about a decent multiplier for <£70? Also I know there are guenuinely good deals to be had on Ebay I've just lost my confidence with it after a few bad eggs: undelivered items, etc. Afterall half of the time the reason a person wants to sell an item on there isn't simply that they no longer need it...

I let Budgie know about this topic and that you are in need of a good reel. If he has one, it will be used but in perfect working order.

Hi Christy sorry for the delay in getting back to you Ive been fishing this week.

I mainly deal in left hand wind ABU's but do have a few right hand models in from time to time At present I have a pre 1980 ABU 6000C (tatty but perfect working order) for £50 and an immaculate new in box modern 7000C for £75. These are all right hand wind.If you want left hand I have a full range of ABU's in 5501C size to 6501C size in various models from £55-£80 dependent on model and condition.

All the reels I sell come with a free lifetime servicing/repair deal where all you do is cover the return postage and any major parts needed. All the reels are £5 P&P.If your interested let me know what price range/model/condition (all are in perfect working condition but the cosmetic condition varies from "brand new" through to "tatty") and I can send you/put on here some pics of the actual reels.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

While Im over on the Sea Forum I might as well plug (if ok?) my reel servicing.I specialise in ABU Ambassadeurs but can do most makes. For a full clean and service I charge £10 + the return postage.Repairs are only charged extra if parts are required.Custom builds also available along with Tournament upgrades.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Blimey, I hope Mrs Becky don't read this thread.

lol luckily for me I bought all my expensive gear (carp & sea) before meeting the missus else I'd have bugger all gear but lots of shoes and handbags

{admin note: I merged two topics so there may be some overlap. Newt}

OK so I've been sea fishing before, when on a short five day break in Norfolk in my Aunt's house roughly 2 years ago, unfortunately I live in South-East London. <_< Anyway before the trip my mum very kindly purchased me a humble beginner's set up, along with all of the various paraphernalia I would need to fish from the shore.

The rod was a 12ft Leeda Olympic, paired with a 1BB fixed spool Okuma reel, which has sadly, due to its poor construction, has broken since. When I was fishing over the five days I litterally fished all day - imprudently I failed to take notice of tidal times as I wasn't aware of the effect they had on fishing then. On the first four days I literally caught nothing, however on the fifth I had a great day and caught 3 Dab, 2 Pollack (I think they were Pollack, they may have been a whiting,) and even a small shark! I had an absolute blast and the Dabs and Pollack tasted unlike any fish I had ever tasted before... delicious!

Anyway, I've been reading a lot about Sea fishing from the shore recently and I now have a rough idea of what I need to do in order to improve my success rates, however I know that my tackle definitely is a limiting factor when it comes to range. My understanding is that when it comes to fishing from the shore it's of paramount importance to be able to cast a long distance in order to have any chance of reaching the fish, which can sometimes be in excess of 150 metres away? With the aforementioned outfit I could barely reach 50 metres and I really don't think it's anything to do with my casting - on a good day I can put a 2.25 lead > 80 metres with my carp rod.

I essentially want a quality set up that will last me for many years and is suitable for the south and eastern shores of England, I do not have much money, (I'm currently only making it by babysitting  ) However I do not mind having to save up for a decent rod and multiplier reel, I just want to catch some Cod, Bass and other tasty fish!

PS: just to fill you in: I've been regularly fishing lakes and rivers for coarse fish for 5 years.

It sounds like I could have a complete combo that is ideal for you here, and it's brand new too.

The only thing is, it might be out of your price range, I have a 16' Greys Triplex rod and a Penn Surfmaster 850 fixed spool reel with spare spool.

Both new and unused and I am looking at £200 the pair.

If these are any good to you you can contact me on: mickyfinn007@yahoo.co.uk

The longer rods are great for longer casting but I stick with my Century and Daiwa 13'6" rods, as I am not a lover of long rods, even though they can help people cast better distances.

I use more specialist rods, as that is what I have been used too for a long time.

I am currently using the Century Tip Tornado Sport and a Daiwa TDZS match, these rods are both matched up with Daiwa 7HT Mag multiplier reels.

As you previously mentioned, sometimes you have to cast well to reach the fish, but my best Bass have always been caught within 60m of the shore.

It has taken me over 30yrs to gather lots of gear, and it can be expensive to replace, especially when somebody breaks into your shed.

Always make sure your gear is insured.

As mentioned before, Ebay can be a very useful tool when purchasing second hand kit.
