Hi just wondering if you guys have any tips on cheap bait because i am going to be fishing my local lake a lot more often for carp and theres nothing better then a kilo of shellfish boilies but i cant afford that every time. Chickpeas are an option but they bring way too many tench - yes good at times but i would really love to go for a carp. I was thinking using tinned salmon and bread crumb to make a smelly boilie but let me know what you think

cheers! :)

Maple peas - simple particle that bream/silver fish do not seem to touch and can be used all year round.

Fish two or three on a hair and mould a bit of paste round them for added attraction.

If never used on the water choose your spots and start a light prebaiting campaign.

They work very well with small pva bags of pellet or over hemp.

Some pellets are quite cheap. You can buy a 10kg bucket of pellets HERE for around £15.

Thanks for the link

It's also worth asking in your local tackle shop for bulk deals. At the start of this year I ordered 30kg of mixed halibut, trout and coarse pellet from my local shop, and he mixed and packaged them all up for me. If I'd bought them in the usual 1kg bags at retail price it would have cost about £90, but he let me have them for £50. Not as cheap as some web shops but no P&P cost, and keeps a bit of money coming his way. A (good) local tackle shop is quite a precious thing.

I dont think modern carpers have ever heard of particle baits Rudd let alone use them! Their loss!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

If you're after avoiding small species then one bait I can definitely recommend are tinned kidney beans. I've used the tinned variety from the supermarket that not only require no preparation but are very inexpensive. Most of all they work.
