That fish smell!

Bit of a strange question, and no jokes please, but how can you get the smell of fish off your hands?? You know when you've been fishing, you come back and you smell of that mixture of damp, mud, bait and fish slime, a pretty horrible combination!

A good shower and clean clothes gets most of it off but i always find the smell lingers on your hands for ages because of where you've picked up the fish im guessing, not ideal if your just about to go out.

I wondered if any of the experienced anglers on here had any experience of how to get it off?

I know it sounds weird but does get annoying so any advice please :)

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

My wife uses a soap shaped piece of metal which she bought from a door to door salesman, she uses it for cleaning her hands from fish, onions and anything a bit smelly, seems to work fine and being very smooth it does not cause her any problems.

Me I wash with washing up liquid, then with imperial leather soap. No problem.

Wait a minute I wash my hands in cold water as if I used hot my pores would open and thus allow the fishy smell to get into the pores and that would take ages to get rid of.

Maybe try washing cold water first.

^^^ Chesters

Bonus - stops you biting your nails too. Also works for chapped lips - rub your lips with it, you won't lick them again!

Hot water and washing (as in clothes) powder works for me. Discovered this one whilst cleaning a landing net that had reached a level of niffiness beyond which I wanted nothing further to do with it. It also removed the niff from the net very nicely indeed. I suspect steam cleaning would also work, albeit in a somewhat North Korean Prison manner.
