I was just taking a pee and....!

Is it just me, or is it a reality that you can stare at a float/bobbin/tip for hours on end but the moment you divert your attention (usually out of sight!) a bite/run occurs?Usually too late to connect! Not always, mind, but often enough that I've DELIBERATELY tried to simulate being 'elsewhere' to induce a bite.Never happens then.Your thoughts or stories please.

In life we all have an unspeakable secret, an irreversible regret, an unreachable dream and an unforgettable love.

haha always when your pouring a drink or taking a pee in the hedge with your head over your shoulders watching for a bite just in case

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

I tend to find lighting a cig encourages a bite. One puff and you get a bite and by the time you have sorted the fish out, your cig is burnt down to the tip.

But at times it does seem like they wait for you to be busy :D

Always happens when I'm rolling.

There goes me, dum dee dum, baccy tin on lap, rolling whilst watching tip. There goes the tip, off goes baccy tin, miss bite, re-bait, cast, scrape up scattered baccy/filters/rizli.

I agree with DaveDave, always happens when I'm pouring a drink, usually a hot one! which obviously ends up spilt over me as I launch for the rod, only to miss the bite!... slight scould, but hey, one of the fishing hazards I'm afraid... it's a dangerous sport! :D

Or the other times are usually when I'm looking at the swans making a nest or the kingfisher catching more fish than me! - only to turn back to my float and it's gone!

Cheers,

Stu...

Chris Yates had a theory that when you were looking at the float intently the fish could 'sense' that they were being activly hunted for and that made them wary. as soon as you are not so intently hunting them ie when you look away to pour a drink say, then they bite. I have tried the trick on looking away but looking back again quickly and feel that it often works.

This could all be a lot of hot air but it makes you think.

It's just like the age old saying that 'a watched pot never boils'. When you are staring at your rod tip it wont move for ages and then as soon as you think its safe to look away 'bam' the tip swings over and the reel starts spinning. Its just sods law. I am one of the ones who tries to induce a bit by lighting a fag or making a new rig and strangely it does seem to work from time to time. Probably just mere coinicidence and it leads to me smoking more than usual but if i think it works I will continue to do it lol. I think we need a scientific study to be done to tell us if we are all just a bit mad when it comes to this one. ;)
