Randy - only been in one Cabelas store (old one I think) and is was one of their small ones.

They are almost all (maybe all) pretty far north and I just don't get up that way often.

The shops in the UK that are flourishing, such as Brundall Angling, Angling Direct, Lathams of Potter Higham, those three being in Norfolk, are all, by UK standards, huge. I say huge, nothing like Bass-Pro!

I have always felt good 'outdoor' mega-stores in the UK would do remarkably well, especially if located at somewhere like 'Lakeside' in Kent.

There is fishing at Lakeside controlled by KAPS.

If anyone was to set up a superstore there I am sure we could do a deal for day tickets.

Can you just imagine three old blokes smoking roll-ups, leaning on the counter chatting to the one sales assistant about Horatio the one-eyed carp in the local lake, whilst 1500 people are waiting in a queue to be served. Thats the BassPro version of what happens in my local shop every saturday morning :)

BassPro shops are bad for your wealth. I cant get out without hammering my card. Its a pleasure to be in a store that nearly always actually has in store what it has in its catalogue, unlike say Fox who tend not to bother. Whilst from a pike and boat gear perspective, Cabelas have the edge over Basspro, shopping with BassPro always seems like a more enjoyable experience. The service in the shop or on the phone is first class and its one of the few large companies that I've dealt with who still appear to take the view that the customer is always right.

Peter... Lakeside is in Thurrock, Essex - Your side of the Thames. On the other hand, Bluewater is in Bean / Swanscombe and both are godawful places to get in or out of. Still, the range of shops and facilities mean that they're great places to lose the wife whilst you do the more worthwhile things in life!

Reminds me... What's an Essex girl's favourite w(h)ine?'

I wanna gota Lakeside!'

Persnally I can't stand shopping malls. Have worked at Lakeside, purgotary on earth!

So you include mind-reading amongst your many and varied skills, then Peter? Or gifted at understanding the male psyche?
