Weed Beds & fish stuck in them

Any comment on what to do when a fish is stuck in a weed bed ?

I had one on at my local water a 49 acre pit and the fishing is hard.

In some places the weed is 8ft tall and dense.

I think i was lucky to get the fish on in the first place...but a little way through the fight everthing locked up....stuck in weed !!

I tried to move it could not, felt like everything may break.I left it for a while with the bait runner on to see if it would move but after 10 mins it didn't.

Does anyone have any tips for when this happens ?

I did not really know what to do, just went with what i have read by leaving it with the baitrunner on to see if it would come out.

Eventually i just heaved as much as i could and got it all moving and kept it on the move (something else i have read about) the weed broke away and i was onto the fish....alls well that ends well. :D

Wondered what other people's experience of fish locked up in weed were ?

cheers

I have had problems with tench getting into weeds. It was in the close margins though so i stuck my landing net in and broke the weeds. I notice if i strike into the weeds the tench will dart off in the other direction. But usually into some more Norfolks! Appart from that i cant think of enythin else that could be helpful  (when have i ever said that befor?)

You got two choices when the fish sticks solid...leave the line slack and hope it comes out on it's own or handline it, you can put far more pressure this way and usually works. You can actually feel the fish as it responds to the extra pressure and you should let go of the line as soon as you feel the fish pulling free, and apply pressure with the rod again.

twanging some times shifts them ,keep the line tight and twang the line (pull about 3 inches at a rightangle to the rod and let go)do it every few seconds if that doesnt work then put the tip under the water and try again :)

I put the rod down, hang a bobbin on the line and wait. Not much else you can do short of going in after it, which isn't always recommended when you might be next to get stuck! Used to fish a lake with huge pad beds, and the only way to get 'em out was by putting the rod down and waiting.
