So introduce yourselfs.....

Restless Oblivion

Ok, seing as im still quite new here and dont know any of you, i thought id take be lazy and ask you all to introdusce yourselfs :D

I ll go first!

Name: Alan

Age: 22

Started fishing / first fish: i was 4 years old, my father took me to the Thames at Runnymead and i caught a bleak, had me hooked, then i started fly fishing at 7!

Personnal bests: Perch 3lb on spinner Grand Union Canal, Chub 5 lb, floating crust small overlooked stream :D , Pike 16 lb, same stream, Carp est 15 lb, floating crust GUC, tench, 5 lb GUC, Bream 4lb, GUC, Roach, 1 lb 12 oz GUC, Brown trout, 4 lb 12 oz river Gade, Rainbow, 12 lb, Hazelcopse, Salmon 8 lb ( landlocked, so i guess it doesnt really count!) Hazelcopse, Sea trout, 2 lb River Teify!

Fav venue: The grand union canal, between kings langley and Boxmoor and all the interlinking streams that run in and out of the canal! its a great area of water, so many people pleasure fishing never catch to the waters full potential, which i reckon is huge, theres so many good fish and you never know quite how big either, i think people need to experiment a bit more to catch the bigger fish, and get up earlier!

Anything else: I usually fish in short 2 to 4 hour sessions, normally starting in darkness, be it 3, 30 or 7 am in winter, to fit around work and women :D so i like to spin and fly fish 95 % of the time, no clutter to carry, bait worries, just grab the rod and go!

I also like to experiment alot with different methods etc, try something new now and then!

Im trying to catch all speceis on fly, so far only, barbel, tench, bream and crucians have eluded me, any tips?

Funny fishy stories:

Im still yet to catch a real wild salmon, while fishing one bright hot morning on the river Teify in wales, having not seen a sign of a salmon all holiday due to low water levels, i was wading up the pool and watched as a salmon of about 6 to 8 lb swam lazily towards me across the gravel towards me, i stood completely still, and couldnt belive it when it swan straight towards me and through my legs then turned and held in the current about 6 ft downstream of me in about 2 ft of gin clear water, and typically, all i had in my hand was my little trout rod with a 3 lb tippet and a tiny dry fly on the end, sods law that was! id kill to go back there now and have a had a worming rod or something in my hands at that moment, who knows..... ah well, such is fishing, its an experience i ll never foget!

anyways, thats me :D

now your turn!

hey steve thanks for the welcome!

And thanks for the link to the other thread, just read it all, good stuff, its nice to know who everyone else is!

Reading Andy Cappeds post where he says he is disabled and still goes, good for you mate, reminds me of a guy i met at hazelcopse trout fishery, he was an old boy he came with his wife, he had a heart problem and was in a wheelchair, and can only fish the first peg, due to the access, anyways, he fished in his chair all day long, his wife sitting with him and had not touched a fish by about 3 pm yet they were being caught all around him, still he was in great spirits and chatting with everyone and didnt seem to mind, anyway, just as i was ready to leave suddenly his little old rod bend over and there was a thrashing on the surface as if a cow fell in, anyway to cut a long story short about half an hour later the fishery owner netted for him a 17 lb rainbow :D with about most of the anglers on the lake standing watching... magical stuff, and he asked for the trout to be returned as well, made me really happy, although not quite as happy as he was! that was a fish well deserved! :D

a bit about me, i'm too old in some departments, not old enough in others. been fising for 35 years.

I enjoy every aspect of fishing. the fishing itself, the company, the fresh air, the scenery, occasionally the fish.

I collect tackle, both old and new. I also build most of my own rods, floats, gadgets etc. mostly because i seldom find EXACTLY what i want.

i'm not a firm believer in publicity, it's much more satisfying to actually show others HOW you succeded, so that they can have success as well. just bragging about it, may win you a tee shirt or very occasionally some cash, but friendships last longer. Also, if the person you show also has success, you have succeded twice!

i'm fairly secretive when i fish, prefering to hide in the bushes when possible. Sadly, that can be counteracted by my dog Musket, who comes with me most of the time. He's very friendly and actually a bonus while fishing. I firmly believe that fish aren't scared of dog walkers. So i use hima s part of my disguise. When he runs along the bank, the fish don't realise I'm an angler and think they're safe!

I've no particular specialisation as regards species, i fish for all sorts. I don't go anywhere in the world without a rod or two, as I can't see any other reason for going anywhere.

I'm a Specialist Anglers Alliance life member, the same with the ACA.

Steve - dunno about you but for me, I would be in the same position chasing women that my dog is chasing cars. What to do if you catch one?

Ok, Ive been on here for a while now but I've never introduced myself properly,

Name: Paul Mallinson

Age: 19

Started fishing: Not a clue, my dad's always been a fisherman and has taken me with him ever since i can remember but i honestly can't remember my first fishing trip or my first fish.

PB's: Barbel 5lb 8 oz, Chub 4lb 4oz, Tench, 6lb 8oz (cheers steve :D ), Bream 8lb 1oz, carp 13lb somthing, and i either don't know or cant remember the others! My best catch in one day was a 50lb net of bream from a large local lake that comprmised of just 7 fish! The biggest being the 8lb 10z fish mentiond abouve and the smallest around 6lb 8oz! What a day! (i was only around 14 at the time!)

fav venue: Any river, Bain, Trent, Severn, Teme, Ure, Wharfe, plus big lakes, I love tip fishing for bream!

Anything else: Don't like fishing carp puddles, horrible manky fish! Much prefer natural venues! Cant wait to get back to Ireland, Hopefully next year, havent been for about 5 years! I like to think that i think about my fishing in a logical way and that helps me catch more fish!

Funny fishing stories: I Joined a fishing team/club a few years back when i was into match fishing, fished the intermediate age group nationals for the club which was an amazing experiance, i was out geared on the day as my pole wasn't long enough to reach the cover on the far bank. Still the last half hour cam and i had put a few fish in the net for some team pionts, then another boat came along, but a few pegs away it stsrted coughing and spluttering, and then broke down in my peg!!

The Piker, real name Des Tobin, live in Belfast(Yeuk), 38, two kids(boys 2 and 9.)Work for a large High St retail company where u probably buy your boxer shorts and the wife her smalls.Started fishing when i was about 6.Catching 100+ perch in a day was easy back then.Gave it up when i was 15 and got back into it about 12 years ago.Love pike fishing(hence the handle) and have an obsession with Tench.Am Chairman for The Northern Ireland Pike Society and R/O for The Tenchfishers(Ireland).Biggest Pike is 30lb 12oz and 7lb 12oz for Tench.Would love to catch a bigger pike but will settle for the next 20lber.As for Tench, will die happy if I catch an Irish 8lber or bigger.

There is a lot wrong in Irish fishing that p*ss me off big time, but some really good things in it that keep me going(Pike Society and Tenchfishers).

Another ambition of mine is to get myself another Vespa.Had 2 back in the 80's when i was a Mod,but i spend all my spare dosh on tackle now...

Well that's me in a few lines........Tight ones..Des

:D
