Fishing after snow

The other day there was a topic about fishing when the snow has melted, and that it causes problems with lack of oxygen and grit from the road may also be a problem. But what if it has melted because of a heavy rainfall, surely that would make it a bit better?

Can you please tell me what effect on stillwaters ans rivers the snow melt will have if there is a heavy rain and slight temperature increase opposed to the snow gradually melting??

Thanks :)

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

I was thinking this as ive just looked at the weather forecast for this week! my thinking is the longer you can give the water to settle and the fish to acclimatise the better but..... You have zero chance of catching if your not there...

I was wondering that too. As far as rivers are concerned I was hoping for a gentle thaw so the melt trickles into the water and the river has a chance of keeping it diluted, rainfall will wash everything in at once which is ok if I'm at work all week but not good if I have a weeks holiday. Stillwaters I suppose are frozen over so anything to get rid of the ice and help the fish would be welcome, rainfall would be a good thing.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

We have had rain and a significant raise in temperature today. I could still walk on the garden pond and the rain butts remain frozen solid. Thawing will take a while and it might get cold again before the lakes are fishable.

Hammering down here at the moment - first significant rain for weeks - wonder what state I'll find the river in tomorrow!

What you want to do is stop fishing puddles and little streams and find yourself a big water to fish where a little snow melt makes little or no difference.
