Forgotten Bait

don't we forget a lot?

 

the other day I wanted to show off some chub that were hiding in a v.small clear stream coming off a larger river. I'd found the shoal a couple of weeks earlier, but hadn't fished for them yet.

 

I wanted to show a South African friend where they were, as he's gagging to go fishing here but hasn't yet. I had no bait with me, to drop in and draw the fish from cover.Then i spotted a bait I hadn't used for years, hanging from the bushes.

 

Blackberries. i pulled off a handfull and flicked one out. A big fish drifted out a snaffled it without hesitation. After a while, I had about ten fish, jostling for position after the freebies. I can't wait to get back! (SA friend was suitably impressed!)

 

So, come on you lot, have a go before all the Blackberries have gone and let me know how you do!

none but he had blackberry pie for tea ,there not forgotten just unused the same happens for any fruit dropping into the water ,well maybe not bananas oh and melons ,coconuts ,conkers ,sweet chustnuts (maybe)etc ,elderberries used to be the killer bait

2 at 4lb 6ozs, 1 at 5lb 3ozs and a few Tiddlers of around a 1lb! (oh, and a bream).

 

They,re still there, I'm having another go on Tuesday morning (before work)

idon't use bait for fishing,when i walk my dogs (jacks,what else would i have)along the river,i flick in any fruit i find growing next to the river.i love to watch the fish,mainly big chub and trout,come out of their hideouts and engulf my offerings.i come back later and catch a few with some small lures on light tackle.i often take my mates little girl,she loves to see the fish eat what she throws in.
