I used Maxima for years, for all my fishing. I mostly fished waggler, pole and quivertip back then, but I did a fair bit of small river stick float too. You can get away with a sinking line for the stick at close range. These days I don't do much general light float or feeder fishing. I've found a braid I like for stick float fishing, and I use Drennan Specimen for everything else. I'd be quite happy using Maxima instead.

Completely agree Tigger - it does everything a mono should do and is probably the best value around.

Our chief weapon is surprise

It's been said many times before but unless you are going for the specialist hooklength type materials, the mainlines nearly all come from the same manufacturers, DuPont for nylon and Bayer for Perlon. They may have dyes added in the early stage of manufacture, so they can be respooled and given high tech names, but I fail to see how that can improve them any, so for coarse fishing I still buy the Bayer Perlon I have for the last thirty odd years! For sea fishing I use harder nylon because with multipliers the stiffness isn't such a pain.

PS. I know there are other processes that can be done to lines but I still suspect that more effort is put into badge engineering and marketing than any real science!

This makes me think of the time when I worked in a dairy producing yogurt. The only thing difference between all the brands we supplied was the pot they were poured into. Save M&S who demanded premium ingredients.

So no recent breakthroughs in nylon polymers then. Thanks for all the recommendations I'll check them out.
