I've used it for the last 20 years (not the same spool!!), and have never worried about it. I worry more about my ability to tie the hook and play the fish. I don't measure breaking strain or check the diameter, just load it onto my old Mitchell 300s and lob it out. Change it every few seasons, and strip off a couple of yards after each trip to avoid weakening by the shot. Never lost a fish by the line breaking.

No connection with the company apart for a satisfied customer

Pro gold arrived this morning, (less than 24 hour delivery time) it's 1000 yards not 1000m by the way. (just for the sake of clarity.

The main interest to me will be the 12lb spool, my maxima at that weight has a tendancy to coil off the real, so I'll report back once the reel is filled up tonight. Judging from Steve Burk's view, however, and having noted ow limp the line is from the spool, I think that this could be a treasure of a find (btw it's a lite green colour)

I have not bought any new reel line for a few years!

I do change all of my spools (8 in total) every season as advised by the experts.

I read alot of the angling rags and get enough free line every year to keep me going.

At the moment I have Drennan float fish, berkley, Daiwa monofil, Drennan specialist, Maxima and braid.

Float fish if ok for trotting or close range waggler work in light winds as it floats.

Berkley is on my bait runner which I only ledger with.

The other three are used for ledger and waggler work with no problems and the braid for feeder fishing.

I cant belive that one bloke is using Maxiam for pole work!

The reason hi tec lines were invented was that some bright spark realised that you do not need pole lines to strech as the elastic does all of the work!

Waggler and ledger lines need some stretch so that they do not break on the strike or when netting a fish!

[REOPENING THREAD]

Have there been any new lines on the market since 2003 (when this thread was last posted to) that update on the recommendations here ?

I've been out for a couple of session waggler fishing at Jacks Lake, Hadley, with some 4LB Berkley Iron Silk ( I was light feedering but switched to waggler half way through the day) but it floated, so I'm looking to spool up one of the spare 3500M spools I have with an alternative line.

I read Steve Burkes review on Pro Gold a few years back and thought I would give it a try. I have to say it's the best line I've ever used. I use it mainly in 2.5 and 3.5 for waggler fishing and trotting and cant ever see myself wanting another line. I never seem to get line twist with it and can honestly say I've never had it break on me.

I also like the fact you can get it on 100m, 500m, and 1000m spools. What i do is buy a 1000m and fill the reel spool up completely when i want fresh line i pull 100m off the reel and replace with another 100m of new line. I used to use maxima all the time but i think its not very good by todays standards.

I use maxima for every line of fishing i do up to 5lb then the line quality just doesn't seem to be the same until you get to 12lb then it's top notch again,so for 8lb/10lb line i use GR60 or fox soft steel camo.

Back to original question yes i do personally believe Maxima is the best line on the market for light wagler fishing, just my opinion though ,and I've used it for over the last 15years,

I miss Phonebush and DG!

No I still think you cant go wrong with Maxima Chamelion.I only use this or Sensor when I use mono. And more importantly have for most of the 40 years Ive fished.I dont know if the modern lines are any better as Ive never had to try them! Why? because Maxima/Sensor has never let me down.If its not broken why fix it!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
