Perch............which rod?

Can someone point in the right direction for a good all round perch rod.I have heared good things about some of the Drennan range and some of the Fox rods look/sound right for the job (especially the kevlar jobbies :D ).

Am I right in thinking that a test curve of 1lbs to 1.25lbs will be about right.I am only envisaging fishing at fairly short range (up to 20 yards or so).

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Ive got to go along with the post about the John Wilson Avons, these would cover all aspects of perch fishing with the exception of lure fishing.

Alternatives would be the similar twin tops that all of the other manufacturers are producing in competition with Masterline.

Indeed, my wife now uses my John Wilson avon Rods and I use the Shimano XT Hyperloop Barbel rod with the three tops, which would also be worth considering.

I've got the JW Avon too. I'm more into lures than bait so my opinion is not based on a big choice of rods. But I find this one to be a nice general purpose perch/chub rod. Its also exceptional value for money

Unless they've changed from the original model (which is possible), I certainly wouldn't recommend the John Wilson Avon for perch, even though it seemed fine for chub. I won one from Angling Times for a big perch some years ago and found the Avon top way too stiff. In fact I promptly gave it away!

I'm pretty sure that they have done exactly that Steve. I do know that amongst the changes was a redesigned reel seat The older model sometimes surfaces on Ebay too.

Steve are you talking about the original original, black with an abreviated handle or the new original, green with a full cork/duplon handle as I have the latter and have always found it to have the classic avon soft through action, i believe the original original was much stiffer
