I am no expert on this .My digital camera is a couple of years old and is 3.1 million pixels. It would be hard pushed to produce high quality prints at that size.Unfortunately big prints=high quality=lots of pixels=lots of money. Some other posters may be able to give good advice but I would be careful how much you spend and get good specialist advice as digital cameras have a short shelf life.

If you want good quality big prints I still think SLR cameras,50 ASA slide film and cibachromes are the way. However as I said I am no expert.

Good luck whatever

3m pixels will produce a good quality A4 pic when printed out. The problems start when you start cropping the pics, if you cut out half the pic then you are then trying to print 1.5m pixels at A4 ok but not top quality.

Its a very personal choice but what I did was work out what features I wanted the most, for me a good zoom was important.

I then went for the best zoom in my price range, ended up with a Fuji S304 3m pixels great zoom, very happy with it.

Scott probably knows more about this than me.I do not know if today's cameras are better than older models.I find, with digital cameras, that the image it takes contains a lot more than you intended therefore cropping can be necessary. You also need a printer of enough quality to handle that detail and that is also part of the equation. Maybe there is a variation between camera makes. Mine is a Kodak and cost more than £600 when I bought it.Hence the need for acre

Good luck

Hi Guys, My input , I got a Kodak DX4900, 4million pixels from my wife for xmas last year, and am over the moon with it. its only a x2 zoom, but is doing the biz ok. It was £400, but in the sales £200.The printer I use is an Epsom 760, which has done a great job for me. The quality of pic is (I think) great depending on the paper used.

Alan,

My concern, if this is for fishing, is that you'll want one relatively cheap, not bulky and quick to use.

Very tricky....

All the magazine contributors I know use film...and lots of it.

All the best,

Elton
