Cheap Gear.

I am looking for a decent budget float rod and reel. Am looking at arround £30 for the reel and no more than £50 for the rod. I dont expect to be catching any monsters on this mostly light work. Am I wasting my time at £50 for the rod, should I be spending more?

In my opinion, good quality rods and reels have never been cheaper.

If you are budgetting £80 for a float rod and reel, you will be overwhelmed with choice and end up with some change in your pocket. :)

Visit a few of the Tackle Shop websites.

Leeda Assasin Match Waggler about £45.

Abu Enticer float rod about £35.

Cormoran, extensive range under £50.

If you are happy to shop online, do a Google for "float rods".

Hopefully, there will be some other recommendations, now the Rugby has finished. :)

The Okuma Force is a well put together reel with decent features, think they go for about £30. Shop around and you may be able to get a discontinued Shimano Solstace rod for your £50, top rod that would have cost you nearer £100 not to long ago.

Most of the bigger on line tackle shops do some great combo deals.
