OK, as I said the fish is heavier than it looks in the pic. Obviously it's not a big fish but going off the guesses it is difficult to get it right. The fish was 5lbs 14 ounces in the landing net and the net was exactly 12 ounces...so the fish was 5lb's and 2 ounces. I know a chap who caught a 9lb 12 ounce bream a little further down stream several years back so I think it is worth trying to target them. I reckon the spot is a regular feeding ground for them so i'm gonna have another go as soon as the river is up again, you never know I might just drop on something worthwhile.

Lozza, the reel is a Greys Bewick.

...and a 5lb bream is a skimmer is it?

Bet there's some cracking 16lb jacks in there too, along with some 1lb blades and the odd 2lb parr.

Compared to the bream Anderoo and others on AN are catching, yes it is a skimmer.

Yes I can see how that would appear to be the case but there are folk catching 40lb pike. That doesn't make an 16lber a jack though does it?

We can't start judging what makes a juvenile according to extraordinary captures of specimen fish.

Tigger,

Just re-read this thread. I see the problem. We always include the weigh-sling (along with a cup or two of water for safety) in the fish weight in the US. Just that little difference in culture made me miss.

That strikes me as cheating. How does a wet weigh-sling qualify as weight? We always zero scales or deduct the sling, net, bag...whatever.
